#107 How To Attack Fantasy Playoff Contests

Posted on

I’ve got playoff fever and there’s two really fun contests that I’ve been consumed with so far this week: Underdog’s playoff best ball contests (“The Mitten”) and the FFPC playoff challenge ($500k top prize).

On Underdog, you draft a best ball team with 5 starters and 5 bench players, but the scores reset after each round of the playoffs after the top teams advance. So the trick is aiming to have a full starting lineup’s worth of players in the SuperBowl, while also making sure you have enough ammo to get outside the wildcard round. For instance, if you load up on Chiefs and Packers, you will be taking a bunch of zeros in the first round and will most likely not advance.

In the FFPC playoff contest, there is no live draft. Every entrant selects a starting roster, but the catch is you can only select one player from each team. The key to this contest is making sure you have a unique roster because everyone is going to want to roster Alvin Kamara, Stefon Diggs Bills, Travis Kelce, and Davante Adams. That means Michael Thomas, Josh Allen, Tyreek Hill, and Aaron Jones look like great pivots. We are doing multiple shows about strategy for this contest on my podcast Ship Chasing this week if you want to get prepped for it. We did an overview of the contest on Monday and will be doing another show tonight.

Now to win these contests, we need to stay on top of all the news leading up to Wildcard weekend. Here’s everything on my radar right now…

  • Sean McVay has no intention of revealing before kickoff whether Jared Goff or John Wolford will start at QB. Fwiw, Goff (right thumb) was a limited participant at Tuesday’s walkthrough practice. I’ve been loading up on Seahawks in these playoff contests.
  • Antonio Gibson DNP’d on Tuesday with his toe injury, while Terry McLaurin DNP’d with his ankle. WFT certainly needs those guys healthy to upset the Bucs. Mike Evans (knee) is also taking it easy to start the week and did not practice yesterday.
  • Cole Beasley DNP to start the week and is still considered “week-to-week” according to the team. Isaiah McKenzie and Dawson Knox will fill the void once again if he misses the game vs. the Colts.
  • The Brows’ training facility is closed again today as they await test results. They continue to prepare virtually for their game vs. the Steelers.

Loose ends. DeVonta Smith won the Heisman to cap an incredible year...Trevor Lawrence has officially declared for the NFL draft...Josh Jacobs was arrested on a DUI charge...Chan Gailey has resigned as offensive coordinator for the Dolphins...Matthew is stoked that PBS cancelled Caillou.

See ya in the draft lobbies.
