As Scott Hanson reminded us on Twitter yesterday, we are now less than 13 weeks away from Red Zone on our televisions. The firehose of fantasy news is about to drench us in camp blurbs, player nuggets, and injury forecasting. It’s time to batten down the hatches...
📰 Fantasy News for the true sickos.
🧊 This is slightly concerning: Amari Cooper may not be ready for the beginning of training camp, according to Ian Rapoport. After undergoing surgery on his ankle in January, Cooper is still dealing with some “residual irritation” and hasn’t been practicing. Let’s not fully panic yet (this should be the motto for fantasy players in June), but I’m ready to start taking CeeDee Lamb over Cooper in drafts.
🥇 The Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan said, “don’t be surprised if Jakobi Meyers looks like” the Patriots’ No. 1 receiver during the team’s mini camp. It’s largely been assumed that the offense would now funnel through the two tight ends and FA signing Nelson Agholor, but this is a good reminder that Meyers led the team in targets, receptions, and receiving yards last year.
🗑️ While we are discussing Pats WRs, I’ll admit to being a N’Keal Harry truther. It might be time to cut bait, though: “The bust label is coming fast for the only Patriots receiver drafted in the first round under Belichick. Harry did not flash in any of the three OTA practices open to the media. He is, at best, the team’s No. 4 wideout now, with Zuber closing fast...it’s now or never." (h/t Callahan)
🍼 Fantasy Life 101: Don’t finish last in your league…
Spin zone: having a diaper for a long run isn’t the worst idea in the world.
Spinning the spin zone: avoid being this guy with a Rotopass sub, which includes access to a bevy—yes I said ‘bevy’—of great fantasy sites, including Football Guys, Rotoviz, Sharp Football Analysis, Rotowire, and Rosterwatch. Use promo code Father for 10% off at Rotopass.com and dodge running a 5K dressed as a baby.
✂️ We did a full breakdown of the Jets WR situation on Friday and yesterday ESPN’s Rich Cimini confirmed that the team and Jamision Crowder are likely headed for a breakup either via trade or straight release. Crowder’s ADP has been plummeting in best ball drafts due to the uncertainty, but as Adam Levitan pointed out on Twitter, there are plenty of spots where he can land and gobble up targets (DET, HOU, NE, NO, and LV to name a few).
⚔️ Trey Sermon vs. Raheem Mostert will be one of the more intriguing camp battles to monitor this summer. With Jeff Wilson out and the team limiting Mostert early at OTAs, it sounds like Sermon is taking advantage of the extra reps and is “already ahead of the curve” according to Jennifer Lee Chan from 49erswebzone.com.
🐦 Tweet of the day. I’m not sure what compelled Jake Trowbridge to record a fully choreographed Backstreet Boys fantasy football parody and I’m hesitant to encourage this kind of behavior, but what’s done is done…
🏈 Father’s Day & Red Zone. Get prepared...
💪 High key thicc. This is a recurring segment that I’m forced to do until people stop acting incredibly thirsty on Twitter dot com about NFL players. Today’s submission comes from @TripleDFFP:
See ya Wednesday.
