I need to make a confession...I can’t stop drafting Mecole Hardman. He’s on *checks notes* 35.6% of my best ball teams.
Often I wonder if I should draft another WR in the 10th and 11th rounds and then inevitably proceed to take Hardman for the 23rd time.
If I may defend myself, Sammy Watkins is gone and Hardman is much cheaper than he was last year when he creeped all the way into the 7th round. The only competition for targets behind Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill are veterans Demarcus Robinson and Byron Pringle and rookie Cornell Powell.
Even better, The Athletic’s Nate Taylor recently noted how impressive Hardman has been at camp: “Through minicamp, it’s clear that Hardman has made sizable improvements, whether it’s his route running, his consistency when catching the ball or his overall demeanor on the practice fields.”
Hardman is even receiving glowing reviews from Tyrann Mathieu: “I think he’s hungrier than he’s ever been...Even when he makes a mistake, he’s not hanging his head. He’s running back to the huddle. You can see it in his eyes that he’s ready to go.”
We know the Chiefs are going to score a ton of points, but even when aggressively forecasting over half of the team’s target share to Kelce and Hill, there is still plenty to go around in this explosive offense. I’m making a sizable bet that Hardman finally enjoys a nice slice of that pie in 2021.
📰 Fantasy News for the true sickos.
* We mentioned a few newsletters ago that with Rashaad Penny’s slow recovery from knee surgery that the backup RB job in Seattle is up for grabs. Per Brady Henderson, RB Alex Collins has received the most reps of any Seattle running back of late. “He looks trimmer and faster than he did in his first Seahawks stint.”
* The Giants waived former Jaguar Ryquell Armstead, which leaves Devontae Booker and Elijhaa Penny behind Saquon Barkley. It would likely be a committee if Barkley misses time this year, but Booker would be the more valuable of the two with his pass catching ability.
* Ke’Shawn Vaughn looks to be a cut candidate with Ronald Jones, Leonard Fournette, and Gio Bernard firmly ahead of him on the depth chart. “Ke’Shawn’s made a nice move but he has to be a better special teams players right now because of what’s in front of him,” said Bruce Arians.

Targeting Year 2 WRs who were drafted highly and flashed in Year 1 is still one of the best ways to find league winners.
