In just the span of a week or so, the first round of fantasy drafts has seemingly morphed from a drafter’s paradise to a minefield that must be carefully navigated.
After Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley, and Ezekiell Elliot come off the board, the best available options start to feel like the updated lyrics in Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start The Fire”...
Now all of these issues might ultimately be non-factors as it pertains to their 2020 fantasy output, but it does bring into focus the scary floor for some of these first round options. Proceed with caution if you are drafting this week and make sure you are getting a discount relative to the new information.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Where Will Leonard Fournette Land? After his surprise release yesterday, we now play the waiting game. The betting markets have the Bears, Patriots, Buccaneers, Washington, and the Texans as the most likely landing spots. Someone needs to cut the phone lines in Bill O’Brien’s office ASAP.
The Jags Are Going To Chuck The Ball This Year: John Shipley thinks the Fournette release signals a shift to a pass-heavy offense this year. Gardner Minshew, DJ Chark, and my personal favorite, Laviska Shenault, all stand to benefit. Sigmund Bloom from Footballguys is on board too.
- More Injuries For The Chargers: Derwin James will be out 6-8 months after getting knee surgery, further cementing the Chargers as the most snake-bitten franchise in the league. Like the Jags, the Chargers will be throwing it a lot this year.
IT’S EASY TO PROJECT HOW MANY PASSES ALVIN KAMARA WILL CATCH
With all due respect to everyone who does their own fantasy projections, it doesn’t seem that hard. For instance, just project Kamara from 81 catches. It’s science.
