#244 Injuries To Monitor For Week 8

Posted on

In today’s Fantasy Life Newsletter, we recap Thursday Night Football and take a look at the full practice report from yesterday. It's 10/29. Take it away, Peter Overzet…

The Packers (7-1) pulled off an impressive 24-21 road win against the Cardinals (7-1) last night despite rolling out a skeleton crew at WR.

The team has a nice thunder and lightning combo going on with RBs Aaron Jones (15-59-1; 7-51) and A.J. Dillon (16-78). Randall Cobb only saw 5 targets, but he made the most of them, scoring twice while filling in for Davante Adams as Rodgers’ binky in the red zone.

For the most part, the Cardinals struggled to move the ball. Kyler Murray missed a wide open Christian Kirk on a big potential touchdown play, but James Conner (5-22-2) found a way to do what he seems to do every single week.

Robert Tonyan suffered what the team believes to be a “significant” knee injury during the game and coach Matt LaFleur said he was “sick” for him. Both of those quotes would seem to indicate that Tonyan is headed for a long absence that could end his season. TE Marcedes Lewis, who ran 14 routes last night, will fill in for Tonyan if he misses time.

We also need to be monitoring injuries on the Cardinals side—DeAndre Hopkins left early after tweaking his hammy and only played a few snaps the rest of the game. Kyler Murray was in a walking boot after the game due to an ankle injury, but it sounds like it was just a precautionary measure.

Last, but arguably most important, Aaron Rodgers provided us with the great next meme template. Do your worst:

📚 THE FANTASY ARTICLES YOU MUST READ

Matthew Berry's fantasy football Love, Hate and Blind Résumés. “It's Leonard Fournette's turn to get some RB Hate, because that New Orleans front seven deserves nothing but love. After making Alex Collins and Rashaad Penny their latest victims on Monday night, the Saints are now allowing just 2.8 yards per carry to opposing backs on the season. That's 34.4% below average. New Orleans hasn't allowed a single back to rush for more than 72 yards on it this season, and just three backs -- Christian McCaffrey, Saquon Barkley and Antonio Gibson -- have even 45 total yards against the Saints.”

DFS Stacks & Values: Week 8 by Ryan McCrystal. “There aren’t many receivers with a target share over 20% and a salary under $5,000, but that’s what we have in Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd ($4,800). Boyd’s 21.3% target share is second only to rookie Ja’Marr Chase ($7,500).”

🚑 THE INJURY WARD

One situation to really keep an eye on is Dak Prescott. It sounds like there is a chance he doesn’t play vs. the Vikings this week. I recommend reading this article for some interesting quotes from Prescott that would seem to hint that he might sit this week so he’s healthy for the home stretch.

Here’s the full rundown from Thursday practices...

* Did Not Practice: Alex Collins (groin), D.K. Metcalf (foot), Austin Ekeler (hip), Miles Sanders (ankle/foot), Kadarius Toney (ankle), Saquon Barkley (ankle), Kenny Golladay (knee), Julio Jones (hamstring)

* Limited participants: Baker Mayfield (shoulder), Trey Lance (knee), Deebo Samuel (calf), Dak Prescott (calf), T.J. Hockenson (ankle/knee), T.Y. Hilton (quad), Antonio Gibson (shin), Nick Chubb (calf), Sterling Shepard (hamstring), Eric Ebron (hamstring)

* Full participant: Rob Gronkowski (ribs), Terry Mclaurin (hamstring), Jarvis Landry (knee)

We’ll be back tomorrow with Waz’s updated Week 8 ranks and updates on a lot of these injury situations.

Enjoy your Friday.
