#245 🚨 Updated Week 8 Fantasy Rankings

In today’s Fantasy Life Newsletter we enjoy Waz’s updated rankings. It's 10/30.

Waz is back with his updated Week 7 rankings, as well as some notes on how injuries could impact things. Take it away, Waz…

* Most of the focus on player availability this week is on Austin Ekeler (RB6), who is dealing with a new hip injury. He did not get a practice in yesterday, but I see it as precautionary with the expectation that he will play. If for some reason he doesn’t, I’m avoiding playing roulette with Joshua Kelley and Justin Jackson.

* Dak Prescott (QB15) has a real shot of sitting this week to avoid further injury to his calf. The rankings to CeeDee Lamb (WR12), Amari Cooper (WR21), and Dalton Schultz (TE8) already have Prescott’s injury baked in, but those still feel too high if we know Cooper Rush (QB31) will be throwing the ball. The hope is that we hear something more concrete before Sunday Night Football.

* Julio Jones being ruled out with a hamstring injury opens up more opportunity for Derrick Henry (RB1) and A.J. Brown (WR7). While Anthony Firkser (TE25), Josh Reynolds (WR74), and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine (NR) could see more looks, I’m not willing to consider them as flex plays this week.

* With Miles Sanders placed on injured reserve with an ankle sprain, Kenneth Gainwell (RB21) should benefit the most. There’s still considerable risk involved with Boston Scott (RB33) and Jordan Howard (NR) in the mix. Howard vultured seven touchdowns on 129 touches with Philadelphia in 2019.

* Football in East Rutherford will continue to be a bit sloppy as the Jets will be without Zach Wilson and Corey Davis against the Bengals. The Jets brought Joe Flacco (NR) back but announced that Mike White (QB30) will start. I’m not excited to rely on the Jets to be fantasy relevant this week, but it’s hard to deny the favorable workload that Michael Carter (RB26) could receive. Also, Jamison Crowder (WR55) and Elijah Moore (WR63) benefit from a positive game script.

* Alex Collins (RB24) is still nursing a groin injury, but the expectation is that he will play. This week’s home game against the Jaguars is scheduled for late afternoon, so there’s some risk in waiting. Still, Collins’ injury was tested last week against New Orleans and he still received 17 touches. Depending on the game script, I’d expect Collins to log at least 20 touches with some Rashaad Penny (RB37) sprinkled in.

* For the tight end streaming crowd, I don’t expect Jonnu Smith’s (TE20) shoulder injury to keep him sidelined, so it could cap the upside of Hunter Henry (TE7). Whether Smith plays or not, I like Henry being the beneficiary of being on the field during “Damien Harris (RB12) against the Chargers’ 32nd ranked rush defense day”.
