#35 Read This Before Setting Your Week 5 Lineup

Posted on

In an alternate timeline there is no COVID-19 and we could spend this morning’s newsletter discussing the “NFL stars if they were fat” meme. We could say things like, “Why did they use an unedited photo of Big Ben” or “Hmm, Julio Jones would be a sick defensive lineman.”

That’s not in the cards, though. Here’s all the breaking news as of noon ET:

The Broncos-Patriots game is being postponed until next Sunday. The Patriots had one new positive test this morning, bringing the total to four positive tests over the past eight days. The Broncos were supposed to play Miami next week, but now that game will need to be rescheduled.

The Titans have shut down their facility again after a coach tested positive. We knew the status of their game vs. the Bill was always shaky, and while no official confirmation yet, it seems basically impossible for that game to go off as planned on Tuesday.

Unless your commissioner is offering some kind of set up for submitting contingency players, you need to remove all players from your lineups. Yes, that includes the Big Dog.

INACTIVE: Julio Jones is INACTIVE today. He did not practice all week and wasn’t cleared to test his hamstring until Friday. Calvin Ridley, Russell Gage, Hayden Hurst, and Olamide Zaccheus ($3,000 on DraftKings) will pick up the slack in a potential shootout game vs. the Panthers...Breshad Perriman (ankle), DeSean Jackson (hamstring), Bryan Edwards (ankle/foot) are also out.

PLAYING: Lamar Jackson (knee/illness), Mark Andrews (thigh), Marquise Brown (knee), Joe Mixon (shin), Le’Veon Bell (hamstring; activated off IR), Henry Ruggs (knee/hamstring)

EXPECTED TO PLAY (Late Games): Practices have gone well for Raheem Mostert this week and he’s expected to play. As Jene Bramel notes, the game script and how his knee responds to early action will affect playing time, but we should expect a more limited role than usual...Adam Schefter reported Deebo Samuel (illness) is good to go for Week 5...Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle) has been cleared to start vs the Dolphins ...Jared Cook got in a full week of limited practices after missing a game with a groin strain. Bramel leans probable and likely effective, but that’s speculation...Michael Thomas (ankle) is trending towards a Monday start. He is officially listed as questionable...Mike Williams (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Monday’s game.

Interesting Nuggets: Jaguars OC Jay Gruden said he wants to get James Robinson more touches in the second half of games...There are some slight weather concerns across the league today as a storm hits the east coast. It’s going to be wet in Baltimore and Washington today...Drew Lock gets another week to rest up now. Vic Fangio said he’s close to 100% so he should be good to go next time they play, whenever that may be.
