I know Tyler Lockett went nuclear last night, but I can’t stop thinking about the D.K. Metcalf chase down tackle on Budda Baker after the interception. According to Next Gen Stats, Metcalf reached 22.64 MPH and traveled 114.8 yards before catching Baker, who topped out at 21.27 MPH. I mean, this is hilarious:
I think sometimes we take for granted the insane athleticism on display in these games because it’s normalized across a cohort of players who are all very athletic. But then sometimes you’ll see a play like the one from Metcalf and realize the true otherworldly physical talents some of these guys possess even relative to their peers. What a grown ass man, my goodness.
Cardinals Win Battle of The Birds. There’s a tweet out there that pops up in my feed every few weeks that says something along the lines of, “The Seahawks have never played a normal game.” That sure feels like the truth. Lockett piled up an insane line of 200 yards and 3 scores, but it was Kyler Murray and the Cardinals who got the W. Murray threw for 360 yards and 3 TDs (two to Christian Kirk) while also rushing for 67 yards and another TD. These kinds of stat lines are becoming the norm for Kyler. I guess you could say he’s “just having fun out there.”
How Do The Falcons Keep Doing This? Todd Gurley accidentally scored a TD for the Falcons after the Lions let him score to get the ball back. You know what happens next...the Lions marched down the field and Matthew Stafford threw a game-winning touchdown to T.J. Hockenson. At least we know Gurley cares about our fantasy teams.
The Steelers Remain Undefeated. Pittsburgh handed Tennessee their first loss yesterday and now set their sights on Baltimore...You know those hypotheticals where someone goes, “How much would it take for you to take a punch from Mike Tyson or try to tackle Derrick Henry?” Well, Robert Spillane took the Henry challenge and lived to tell the tale.
Rookie QBs Stuffing The Box Score. Justin Herbert is fast becoming one of the most fun players in the NFL and fantasy. He threw for 347 yards and 3 TDs and also rushed for 66 yards and a score. Joe Burrow also had himself a day, chucking for 406 yards and 3 TDs in their loss to Cleveland. The difference between Herbert and Burrow were the turnovers, though. Herbert limited it to 1, while Burrow had 4 total.
Injury roundup. The Browns fear Odell Beckham suffered a major knee injury Sunday. We are still waiting for more details. Rashard Higgins is the next man up (6 catches, 110 yards)...Pete Carroll says Chris Carson needs an MRI to look at a midfoot sprain...Kenyan Drake is also getting an MRI today to determine the extent of his ankle injury. Chase Edmonds will explode if Drake misses time...Jeff Wilson, who rushed for 3 TDs yesterday, left the game with a high-ankle sprain...Deebo Samuel (hamstring) is expected to miss some time. If so, Brandon Aiuyk will get his chance to shine…Phillip Lindsay suffered a concussion in the Broncos game vs. the Chiefs yesterday...Breshad Perriman was evaluated for a concussion after taking a late hit vs. The Bills. Rookie Denzel Mims looked very good in his debut...Ryquell Armstead is still struggling with his COVID-19 recovery and is expected to miss the rest of the season. Scary, sad news for the 23 year-old Jags RB.
DFS Review. The chalk plays aka the best plays all hit in a big way again yesterday (Davante Adams, Alvin Kamara, etc.), which means I didn’t have a good day. I recapped my lineups and the process behind how I built them this morning.
Matthew’s Daughter Is A Savage Graphic Designer. I like the space background.
We got Bears-Rams tonight. Enjoy.
