#50 got RBs? We Know The Answer...

Posted on

As Pat Daugherty said on Twitter yesterday, running back is a fantasy wasteland heading into Week 8.

Davis Mattek points out that there are only ten running backs who have handled 60% or more of their teams’ carries while active.

When you factor in committees and injuries, this has been a disastrous year for drafting lots of running backs early. The answer to “got RBs?” doesn’t really need to be answered. We all have the same answer.

Wednesdays are a relatively slow day by NFL news standards, which is why I’ve decided Wednesdays Are For The Stats. Here’s all the stuff I’m reading this morning to get a jump on Week 8…

Wednesdays Are For The Stats

Rich Hribar is back with his Week 8 Worksheet on Sharp Football (get access via the Rotopass network, along with Footballguys, Rotowire, ESPN+, RosterWatch, and Rotoviz). “The Rams are currently sixth in the NFL in sacks (20) and third in the league in passing points allowed per attempt (0.34).” Tua is going to have his work cut out for him in his first start.

JJ Zachariason posted a cool chart showing how teams have distributed their targets to each position so far this season. Some of these are pretty intuitive (New Orleans throws Alvin Kamara a ton), but some are pretty sneaky (Noah Fant & Albert Okwuegbunam are getting a lot of burn).

How the Chargers are using their WRs is very interesting. Pat Kerrane breaks it down, as well as every relevant stat from Week 7 in the latest edition of Stat Chasing

Blair Andrews over at Rotoviz looks at a metric called “Expected Points” to see which players are over- and under-performing their opportunities. Here’s a crazy stat from the piece: “Tyler Lockett had more fantasy points than every WR for the Cowboys, Patriots, and Jets … combined.”

Rotowire has a fully sortable database for targets, routes, and snaps from Week 7. A.J. Green was second only behind Lockett in Air Yards (183) for the week. He continues to push the boundaries on passable efficiency on massive volume.

Injury Roundup. Christian McCaffrey has not been ruled out for Thursday. Seems unlikely he’ll play, but he is now back at practice wearing a red jersey...Julio Jones (hip) was limited at practice on Tuesday, but this is fairly normal for him early in the week...Devonta Freeman was a non-participant at practice on Tuesday. We didn’t talk about him in waivers yesterday, but Wayne Gallman is an okay, albeit non-exciting, pickup if you need a RB spot start…Sean McVay is hopeful that Tyler Higbee’s hand turns the corner and that he can play Sunday vs. the Dolphins...Jalen Reagor could return this Sunday. We mentioned him in waivers yesterday, but this is another reminder that you should add him...Dez Bryant has officially been signed to the Ravens practice squad.

Loose ends. Peyton Manning needling Tom Brady is always great...Adam Shaheen signed a two-year contract extension with the Dolphins. Shout out to the Bears for drafting and developing Shaheen for the Dolphins...Tampa Bay couldn’t even photoshop a Bucs jersey onto Antonio Brown smh.
