On Friday, some combination of Adam Schefter and Sean Payton announced that Taysom Hill would get the start at QB for the Saints on Sunday after Drew Brees suffered 11 rib fractures.
This somewhat surprising decision sent fantasy Twitter into a frenzied tail spin. As Anthony Amico points out, Jameis Winston has thrown more TD passes in every year of his career than Hill has career pass attempts (!) and yet here we are.
I tried to summarize the entire situation here, but the cliff notes are that Taysom Hill has tight end eligibility on both ESPN and FanDuel. These are loopholes that you should definitely exploit, considering Taysom’s floor projection is greater than almost every tight end’s median projection this week, save for maybe Mark Andrews. I think Hill is an incredible option at tight end and a decent one at QB. I’m still skeptical that Sean Payton can fully remove the gadget out of Hill and that we won’t also see some Winston today, but that’s just my gut take.
Here’s everything else you need to know before setting your lineups for Week 11…
- Banged Up QBs. Teddy Bridgewater is active today, but P.J. Walker will start. There was some confusion on this early, but it has been confirmed that XFL star Walker will get the nod...Matthew Stafford (thumb) will start today vs. the Panthers. Jene Bramel thinks he should be fully effective...Drew Lock (ribs) performed well in walkthrough yesterday and will start. Bramel thinks there’s some risk of aggravation and inaccuracy, but let’s be honest, Lock is always at risk of inaccuracy.
- IR Maneuverings. Joe Mixon (foot) was placed on IR, but should return in Week 14...Sony Michel is returning from IR and will play today...Allen Lazard (abdomen) is expected to play vs. the Colts this afternoon...Irv Smith is set to return today vs. the Cowboys after missing last week with a groin injury...Mecole Hardman was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list.
- Out Sunday: Drew Brees, Josh Hill, Myles Garrett, Zach Ertz, Joe Mixon, Christian McCaffrey, Kenny Golladay, D’Andre Swift, Danny Amendola, Laviska Shenault, Jadeveon Clowney, Myles Gaskin, David Johnson, Sam Darnold, Cle Ferrell, Sammy Watkins, Mitchell Schwartz.
For a more in-depth rundown on all of the injury situations, I recommend--as always--reading Jene Bramel’s article on Footballguys.
Good luck today, everyone.
