#87 Cam Akers = League Winner 🏆

Posted on

Yesterday morning I was sitting here looking at Antonio Gibson’s injury, dismal snap shares for J.K. Dobbins and Jonathan Taylor, and thinking to myself, “We aren’t going to get one of those quintessential rookie RB breakouts for the fantasy playoffs this year, are we?”

And then bam, we get it on TNF. Cam Akers rushed for 157 yards on 23 carries and caught 3 balls for 23 yards while Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson were finally relegated to bit roles. That’s a bellcow-level workload and the kind of production that can supercharge your team to championships down the stretch.

Not much to write home about otherwise from TNF...Cam Newton looked pretty bad and was ultimately benched after throwing a pick six on a terrible throw. The Rams had six sacks. Not a single pass catcher in the game eclipsed 50 receiving yards. We’re onto the main slate...

  • Matthew has an update on his COVID experiences in his Week 14 LOVE/HATE column. Glad to know he’s doing well and also glad to hear he isn’t scared to go back to Justin Herbert after a few down weeks. I still can’t believe that the Chargers are 2.5 point home *underdogs* to the Atlanta Freaking Falcons.

    • The LateRoundQB aka JJ Zachariason joined us on the Splash Play pod last night to dish out our favorite fantasy plays for Week 14, lament the players who have “retired” before the fantasy playoffs, and marvel at the Danny Amendola hive that exists out there.

    • If you are playing Russell Wilson to DK Metcalf stacks in DFS this week, should you “bring it back” with a Jets player, even though their offense has been atrocious this year? I talked with Colin Drew, one of the best DFS players out there, about this concept, as well as how to build winning GPP lineups, on my channel this morning

  • Injury rundown. This is a tricky week for injuries and we ultimately won’t have a good feel for how things are truly trending until the Schefter bombs on Saturday night. One thing we do know is that Julio Jones will not play on Sunday. I’ll post the full Thursday injury report below, but the situations I’m closely monitoring are DeAndre Hopkins (DNP with two injuries), A.J. Brown (who normally misses Thursdays but also missed Wednesday), and Mike Evans

DNP: DeAndre Hopkins (neck/back), Frank Gore (concussion), Kenny Golladay (hip), Chase Claypool (illness), A.J. Brown (ankle), Christian McCaffrey (shoulder/thigh), Mike Evans (hamstring), Antonio Gibson (toe)

Limited: Chris Carson (foot), Deebo Samuel (foot), Brandin Cooks (foot/neck), Allen Robinson (knee), Josh Jacobs (ankle), Ezekiel Elliott (calf), Jamison Crowder (calf), Michael Thomas (limited), Todd Gurley (knee), D’Andre Swift (illness), Kenyan Drake (hip), Daniel Jones (hamstring), James Robinson (knee), Myles Gaskin (knee), Breshad Perriman (shoulder),

Out Sunday: Denzel Mims (personal), Julio Jones (hamstring)

Talk to you guys on Sunday.
