#93 🤦 Keenan Allen Said “Don’t Sit Me!”

Posted on

Last night was one of the more stressful and tilting lineup decisions I’ve ever had to make.

I have a team in the FFPC Main Event ($1800 buy-in) that I co-manage with my buddy Pat Kerrane and a high stakes veteran who goes by the name Crakrok. The large field tournament has a $500,000 top prize and heading into TNF we were sitting in striking distance from an 11th place perch.

Our team is loaded with studs like Derrick Henry, Stefon Diggs, Josh Allen, and...Keenan Allen. All day we waffled back and forth on if we should start him with the Schefter news that he would be on a pitch count due to hamstring soreness. A few minutes before lock, Allen yelled into the camera, “Don’t sit me!” and we listened to him. You know the rest of the story...1 catch for 17 yards.

Like sand through fingers, I could feel our realistic chance at $500k slipping away from us with every snap Keenan didn’t play. Oh well, that’s, dare I say, the Fantasy Life.

For the soothsayer who put Marcus Mariota as his captain in his DraftKings showdown lineup and subsequently won $500k, I would imagine last night was far less tilting. Mariota looked great in relief of Derek Carr, who left early with a groin injury.

Darren Waller continued to cement himself as the year’s #2 tight end behind Travis Kelce with an impressive 9-150-1 line. On the other side, Justin Herbert stayed hot (312 pass yards, two TDs, 14 rush yards, 1 TD). Michael Badgley—who is sure to be a fixture on the next episode of the hit show, Kicker Chasing—missed two potential game-winning field goals. Still, the snakebitten Bolts were able to pull out the win in OT.

The big news this morning is that Drew Brees (ribs) will be activated off IR and start Sunday’s game against the Chiefs. Alvin Kamara and the ancillary pass catchers like Emmanuel Sanders and Jared Cook should see the biggest boost from the switch.

I’ll post the full injury rundown from Thursday below, but I recommend checking out Jene Bramel’s midweek injury expectations piece on Footballguys for more nuanced reads on these situations. Julio Jones (hamstring) has already been ruled out for this weekend.

DNP: Duke Johnson (neck), Michael Thomas (ankle), James Conner (quad), A.J. Brown (maintenance), Antonio Gibson (toe), Alex Smith (calf),Matthew Stafford (ribs/thumb),

Limited: Derrick Henry (non injury-related), Chris Carson (groin), Robert Woods (thigh), James Robinson (knee), Raheem Mostert (ankle), Brandin Cooks (neck), Calvin Ridley (foot), DeVante Parker (hamstring), Mike Gesicki (shoulder), Daniel Jones (hamstring/ankle),  Ezekiel Elliott (calf)

Talk to you all Sunday.
