Milwaukee Brewers vs. Philadelphia Phillies

The Phillies enter play as one of the hottest teams in baseball. Since June 1st, the Phillies have the second-best record in baseball (26-12).

Philadelphia got off to a rough start, but the hot run has skyrocketed them up the standings, and they enter play just 0.5 games out of the final wildcard spot in the national league.

Milwaukee enters play today feeling great about their weekend series vs the Reds. They dominated the series on the road and came out of the weekend in first place.

Milwaukee got uncompromising news this week as they learned that power-hitting first baseman Rowdy Tellez would undergo surgery on his finger.

That is a big blow for this Brewers lineup, as Tellez ranked second on the team in home runs with fifteen.

The main ingredient for success over the last couple of seasons for the Brewers has been their pitching.

This team has ranked in the top ten every year over the last three in team ERA.

This year the Brewers are right outside of the top ten as they rank 12th with a team ERA of 4.01

When they are healthy, this is one of the best rotations in all of baseball.

Tonight the Brew Crew will send right-hander Julio Teheran to the mound.

Pick: Philadelphia Phillies -1 (-150, DraftKings)

The current Phillies lineup supports a team batting average of .336 and an OBP of .424 vs. Teheran.

  • Bryce Harper matches up quite well vs. Teheran as he is 19-47 (.404) lifetime vs Theran with nine home runs.
  • Trea Turner is another Phillie that sees Teheran nicely as he is 10-25 (.400) vs Theran with a home run.
  • Kyle Schwarber bats .417 in his career vs Theran in twelve at-bats.

This should lead to a lot of hard contact and runs for the Phillies. Teheran got off to a good start this season but has struggled lately.

Aaron Nola has solid numbers vs. this Brewers lineup, holding them to a .250 lifetime batting average.

Nola has always been a much better pitcher at home, which is the case again this year. He is 3-2 at home with an ERA of 3.40 and a batting average against of .200 compared to the road, where he is 5-4 with an ERA of 4.99 and a batting average against of .244.

Washington Nationals vs. Chicago Cubs

The Cubs will enter play on Tuesday night, representing a record of 43-50. Chicago is currently 8.5 games out of first place in the NL Central and 8.5 games out of the final wildcard position.

The Nationals enter play as the second-worst team in the National League. Entering the season, the Nats knew it would be a long year and that developing these young players would take some time.

This organization won a world series in 2018, but their run was short-lived, and they quickly pivoted to a rebuild.

The star of this Nationals offense has been outfielder Lane Thomas.  He leads the team in hits with one hundred nine on the year, and he also is tied for the HR lead with 14.

Washington has struggled to produce runs this season as they rank 22nd in baseball in runs per game (4.22).

Their pitching has been even worse, as they rank 27th in baseball in runs allowed per game (4.85).

The Nats will send Southpaw Patrick Corbin to the bump tonight.

Pick: Chicago Cubs -1 (-125, DraftKings

The Cubs have fantastic lifetime numbers vs. Patrick Corbin. As a team, Chicago bats. .273 with an OBP of .356 vs. Corbin in a large sample size (77 at-bats).

Corbin has been horrific away from home this season, representing an ERA of .536.

Another odd split that Corbin has is his day/night splits. Corbin has pitched significantly better in day games with an ERA of 4.18 vs. night games, where he has an ERA of 6.48.

He now faces a red-hot Chicago lineup, so he will likely struggle tonight.

Jameson Taillon has some terrific numbers vs. this current Washington team. He has a batting average against of .188 in thirty-two at-bats.

Taillon has struggled on the season, but he is coming off his best start of the season, where he pitched eight innings and did not allow one run vs. the Yankees.
