Dynasty Fantasy Football Mailbag For Week 7: Makai Lemon a Buy-Low?

Now that we’re in Week 7, we’re nearing one of the most fun times in the dynasty fantasy football calendar: Trade szn! Leaguemates are making their determinations on their rosters. Some are cutting bait. Sam Wallace got some buy-low questions and more from our Fantasy Life Discord community. Here are the answers.

Week 7 Mailbag for Dynasty Fantasy Football

Is now the time to buy-low on Makai Lemon?

I’m all about buying low on highly drafted, talented rookie wideouts on good offenses in the midst of a disappointing stretch of games. Conveniently, Makai Lemon happens to check all of those boxes.

Even before the latest Jalen Hurts news, this season was not going well for the Eagles. That makes buying low on someone like Lemon even more appealing. Assuming this season ends up being a wash for Philly, load up on Lemon and hope the team figures itself out.

Of course, there’s always the chance that Lemon offers a few splash weekends for fantasy managers this year. His price has never been this low.

Is now the time to buy low on guys like Justin Herbert and Ladd McConkey?

There’s no getting around it … the Chargers have been the most disappointing team in the entire league this season, and it isn’t particularly close. There’s so much talent at every single offensive skill position but, for some reason, they just haven’t been able to put it together.

Justin Herbert has been a mere shadow of his once-dominant self. He has thrown just 5 TDs in six games (exactly one in each of his first five games) and has thrown at least 1 INT in each game (8 total).

As for Ladd McConkey, he’s already dealt with a foot issue, now has a concussion, and has hauled in just a single TD on the year.

On one hand, it really can’t get much worse. So, with that in mind, I certainly don’t mind buying these guys right now. There’s too much history of them both highly highly productive fantasy assets and I genuinely believe the coaching staff will figure it out.

Is Seth McGowan worth a stash in deeper leagues?

Seth McGowan is absolutely worth a stash in deeper formats, especially if you already have Jonathan Taylor on your roster. It sounds like there’s at least the potential of the Colts moving on from Taylor ahead of the trade deadline, so having McGowan on your roster simply makes too much sense.

Candidly, I’m not sure how productive this offense will be moving forward so we’ll have to see just how involved McGowan is, but he’s worth keeping on the end of your bench if nothing else.

Does the return of Josh Jacobs make him a sell-high candidate?

If you have Josh Jacobs on your roster and your team is absolutely nowhere near competitive this season, you can certainly sell high on him. However, if you are even remotely competitive, I would be holding him tight and inserting him into my starting lineup as soon as he sees the field for the Packers.

Green Bay has every reason to establish the run as soon as possible. The Packers have been at the bottom of the league in rushing production this season. As brilliant as Jordan Love and the passing game have been to keep this offense afloat this long, they can’t remain one-dimensional forever. Trot out Jacobs as soon as you are able to do so.

Should we be worried that J.J. McCarthy will lower Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely's fantasy production, and is now the time to sell high on those players?

I’m honestly not all that concerned about the changing of the guard at the QB position in New York. Both Malik Nabers and Isaiah Likely are locked in as the top two receiving options for this offense and will remain heavily involved regardless of the game script. Especially at a position as shallow as TE, I am firmly holding Likely. As for Nabers, the quality of the targets might not always be great, but volume will offset that without much of an issue.

What should we expect from Zach Charbonnet for the rest of the season?

I’m not entirely sure what to expect of Zach Charbonnet. It’s been a minute since we’ve seen him on the field and the backfield he’s returning to looks much different since the departure of Kenneth Walker. The Seahawks could certainly use Charbonnet to balance this offense, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they ease him into this first game action of the season.

Should I pick up T.J. Hockenson or Chig Okonkwo?

While T.J. Hockenson is the more brand-name player, I’m going with Chig Okonkwo. Hockenson has one great game, but Chig has been more consistently involved. The loss of Terry McLaurin will only further open up the passing game and Chig was getting steady usage even before the veteran wideout went down with a knee injury.

There aren’t too many opportunities to buy low on a TE that you can immediately insert into your starting lineup, so make sure to make the most of this chance while you still can.

8-Team, PPR League

A question came in from our Discord about how to manage a roster in an 8-team league so I wanted to give some general thoughts here. In a league that shallow, I’d prioritize high-end talent over depth. The player pool is much more condensed, with only a handful of teams so pretty much every manager has studs at a few different positions.

If you’re in a deeper league with additional starting lineup requirements, feel free to approach your roster construction with an added focus on depth. However, if you’re in a shallow league and you’re in a position where you can consolidate some depth into an elite asset, definitely give it a strong consideration.
