What Player Ranking is Too Low? Kendall's Fantasy Football Roundtable
Welcome back to the Roundtable! This season I will try to get as many fantasy football analysts (and friends) to give us their best advice, overreactions, and maybe even some life lessons along the way. This is meant to be insightful, but also fun—so please be sure to enjoy and also give everyone a follow if you have the chance!
Today's Roundtable contributors include the amazingly talented (and Fantasy Life's own) Samantha Holt and rising superstar LaQuan Jones from NFL Network! Let's get into it…
Who is a player you are higher on than consensus fantasy rankings?
LaQuan: I’m a lot higher than most this season on Drake London, whom I believe has top-10 WR potential. It was never London’s talent capping his full fantasy potential, it was the poor QB play and a dull offensive scheme.
Kirk Cousins is a huge QB upgrade who could help London over the hump. Since 2018, Cousins has the third-highest completion rate at 67.8%. The biggest issue for London was having a QB who could target him with catchable passes. Justin Jefferson ranks sixth in catchable targets while London ranks 45th among WRs since 2021. I believe he can turn these targets into fantasy points.
Sam: Romeo Doubs is someone I’m picking up in the back half of every draft I can. Last year while Christian Watson was dealing with a lingering hamstring injury, Doubs was able to capitalize on his opportunities with 674 yards and 8 TDs. The only other Packers receiver to exceed that output was Jayden Reed with 793 yards and an equal 8 TDs. Now Reed sits at a consensus ADP of 60, Watson at 70 and Doubs at 101. If Watson struggles at all to stay on the field, Doubs will see immediate usage and at the cost, he’s a perfect stash.
Kendall: Now this could come back to haunt me, but I have been drafting a ton of Rome Odunze this offseason! The path is definitely murky—he is the WR3 behind DJ Moore and Keenan Allen, but I think if we squint hard enough we can see that the talent Odunze possesses could push him up the depth chart eventually.
Both Moore and Allen are coming off 26% and 30% target-share seasons, respectively. FantasyLife+ projections have Odunze notching 90 targets, 724 receiving yards and 129 PPR points in 2024. We never want injuries to happen, but if Moore or Allen were to go down then Odunze would be in line for a big production increase. Overall, if you draft Odunze you have to practice patience. He will not be an immediate starter for you, but with time hopefully we could see him shine in what looks to be an ascending offense.
Which RB in the Cincinnati backfield do you like more? Zack Moss or Chase Brown?
LaQuan: Both running backs are close in ADP—only separated by a couple of picks—but I do like the value on Zack Moss in those later rounds.
Moss fits what the Bengals are looking for in a running back who could do it all. Pass protection, early-down back, pass-catcher, and the ability to execute in the red zone.
He was very productive against some tough defenses last season. For example, he had 32 touches with 122 rushing yards and one receiving touchdown against the Ravens' defense last season. Pretty impressive. This is his backfield with Chase Brown involved in a limited capacity.
Sam: Zack Moss out the gate I see having a more explosive role than Chase Brown. He’s demonstrated the speed needed to function in this offense as well as an ability to separate and become a target in the receiving game. While Brown last year had a decent number of carries behind Joe Mixon, he lacked the ability to split defenders in tight coverage.
Moss took a step up last year with the Colts in his receiving game with 27 receptions on 37 targets, his highest to date. I believe this is what drew the Bengals to target him. Filling in the gap left by Mixon looks like a two-man job, but the workload will side favorably with Moss.
Kendall: I have been drafting more Chase Brown than Zack Moss over the last month. Moss did not play in the first preseason game because of an illness, but Brown is believed to be viewed by the team as an immediate contributing starter.
Now, Moss does fit this role with the Bengals especially well. Both the Colts and the Bengals have a similar ground game, which means that it won't take much time for Moss to ramp up with his new team. This is an offense I want a piece of and even if this is a split backfield I think that Brown will outperform his current ADP, and he is one of my favorite Zero-RB targets at the moment.
What quarterback are you targeting the most this season in drafts?
LaQuan: I’ve been drafting Anthony Richardson a ton this summer. He is somebody who I believe has top-5 QB upside this season. Tiny sample of what his full fantasy potential could be in the NFL, but he did account for 7 touchdowns in 4 games and only played in full in two.
He became the first QB with 4+ rush TDs in his first three career games since 1970. He has top-5 upside not only with his legs being a major factor, but the supporting weapons around him help this case. I expect the Colts offense to be able to drive downfield with Richardson and create a lot of scoring opportunities.
Sam: I’ve made it my mission to walk away with Caleb Williams as my QB2. Based on his weapons and rushing abilities his ceiling has the potential to be this year's C.J. Stroud. Williams has two incredible veteran receivers in DJ Moore and Keenan Allen—both coming off 100+ receptions last season—and a bursting talent in Rome Odunze, who Caleb is already showing a strong connection with.
Williams also has the rushing upside we love, coming off his last two seasons at USC, where he had back-to-back 10+ rushing TDs. The Bears set Caleb up to succeed and I can’t wait to rake in the fantasy points.
Kendall: If anyone knows me (or listens to Fantasy Life on SiriusXM) then you know that I absolutely love drafting Kyler Murray this season and I still believe he is insanely mispriced.
One of the concerns after his injury was if he could continue to have the rushing upside we know and love in fantasy football. In the eight games he played last season he had five games with 30 or more rushing yards, had at least 17 fantasy points in six and averaged over 18 fantasy points per game. It was also his fourth straight season as a top-10 fantasy quarterback in points per game.
And now let's add in that this offense got even better this offseason too. Marvin Harrison Jr. should be able to open up this offense and elevate Murray's game. Add in tight end Trey McBride, who had insane chemistry with Murray last season and that should get everyone excited! He's going as the QB10 right now on ESPN drafts—way too late for a quarterback with as much rushing upside!
If you could only watch one movie for the rest of your life, what would it be?
LaQuan: These questions are always the hardest for me regarding movies, but if I had to choose one movie for the rest of my life it must be Adam Sandler's Happy Gilmore.
It's my comfort movie with so many funny moments. One of my favorite scenes from the movie does not even have Adam Sandler in it. It’s the scene with Ben Stiller playing a nurse and one of the older women from the retirement home says “My fingers hurt." If you saw the movie then you know his response to her is hilarious. All-time favorite.
Sam: My one movie would have to be Dumb & Dumber, even when I just think of that movie, it puts a smile on my face. A classic comedy would be worth watching for the rest of my life. Not something that would make me sad or give me anxiety like a drama or thriller. I’d want to watch something that would bring me joy! Plus it’s one of the best movies to quote in good times “I like it A LOT,” and in bad “We got no food, we got no jobs, our pets' heads are falling off!”
Kendall: Alright, I know this is a difficult question, but I would have to say My Cousin Vinny. Seriously if you have not watched this movie I urge you to add it to your list! Marisa Tomei is absolutely iconic in this movie (she won Best Supporting Actress) and I think I quote it at least once a week.
"Oh yeah, you blend."
It also has Joe Pesci, who plays Vinny Gambini in the film and he gets a call from his cousin Bill (Ralph Macchio) asking him to be his lawyer and represent him and his friend, Stan (Mitchell Whitfield), in a trial for a murder they did not commit. It's endlessly quotable and will make you laugh out loud. Let me know when you watch it!
