It's time for Pete's Pick 6—a weekly recap column where I spotlight the best and the worst performances from Sunday's games. In today's edition, we are devoting one bullet to each team who played yesterday.

Let's dig in …

Inner Excellence: Train your mind for a low-scoring W

You know it was a boring game when the biggest highlight was A.J. Brown reading a book on the sideline during the second half.

The book in question? Inner Excellence by Jim Murphy. If you are wondering what it's about … well, it's exactly what you'd expect it would be:

This step-by-step training manual from one of the world's top mental skills coaches will teach you how to train your mind like the very best.

Apparently he brings it to every game—you can listen to him explain the backstory herebut it was particularly funny to see him studying it immediately after Jalen Hurts badly missed him on a fake tush push play.

With only one catch on the day, he certainly showcased way more inner excellence than outer excellence vs. the Packers.

It's a bummer that the holidays have come and gone because this book would have made the ultimate stocking stuffer for the football fan in your life. I guess you'll just have to buy it for yourself like Ian did.

Jayden Daniels, Mr. Clutch

We asked the question yesterday whether Daniels could continue his heroics in the postseason—a place not typically too friendly to rookie QBs.

The moment was clearly not too big for him as he led the Commanders to an impressive road win in Tampa.

He didn't go nuts (268 yards and 2 TDs passing, 36 yards rushing), but he also showed poise in the pocket during some extremely important drives and didn't make any mistakes.

The Commanders line was under constant siege from the Bucs pass rush, but Daniels remained calm and collected.

Zane will steal the headlines thanks to his doink, but this win was all about Daniels.

He now gets a much tougher test on the road in Detroit next week vs. the NFC's top team. Can't wait.

The Bills take care of business

It was looking dicey for a second. With three minutes left in the third quarter, Buffalo was up 13-7 and faced a 4th and 1 in Denver territory.

The play, which seemed to last for an eternity, resulted in Ty Johnson running back-and-forth across the field (67.9 yards total) before catching this incredible TD pass from Josh Allen.

After that, the Bills never looked back.

Allen finished with 272 passing yards and 2 TDs, while James Cook pitched in 120 rushing yards and 1 TD.

In a very fitting conclusion to the game, Damar Hamlin picked off Bo Nix on the last possession and celebrated with the fans.

This victory sets up what will likely be the marquee matchup of the entire playoffs–Ravens at Bills in the Divisional Round.

Mike Evans gets the last laugh

There was a decent amount of concern heading into this game surrounding Marshon Lattimore shutting down Mike Evans.

I sort of get where it was coming from. In the 11 games the two have faced off, Evans has only cleared 50 receiving yards in one of them. And he also has a history of getting ejected in those bouts.

That said, Lattimore entered yesterday's game coming off a two-game absence due to a hamstring injury and Mike Evans is, um, Mike Evans.

The Bucs and Big Mike were clearly not scared of their history, though. They repeatedly targeted Lattimore throughout the game, including at the goal line. Evans finished the first half with 5 catches, 66 yards, a TD, and drawn pass interference.

Lattimore might have gotten the team W, but the individual matchup goes to Evans via unanimous decision.

Sean Payton chokes in Buffalo

No one expected the Broncos to pull off an upset against this beastly Bills squad, but we certainly expected more from Sean Payton.

Outside of one inspired fake punt in the first half, Payton called an egregiously conservative game plan where he treated Bo Nix like Tim Tebow instead of, ya know, a promising young rookie QB who can make plays.

Down multiple scores in the second half, Payton dialed up hopeless RB plays on first and second down, only to put the offense in impossible third-and-long situations.

Even after that fun fake punt, he bizarrely decided to punt again a few plays later on a 4th and 7 that was beyond cowardly

The Broncos had the personnel to be a plucky, tough out, but Sean Payton did them no favors today.

As someone who bet the Broncos to cover, I may or may not have liked a few social media posts calling Sean Payton a “Drew Brees merchant.”

At least he didn't cost a couple of early–round picks to acquire or anything …

Josh Jacobs can't do it all, man

Two things can be true:

1) Josh Jacobs is a grown-ass man who played out of his mind this year, including in this final playoff game against the Eagles (18-81-1). Not sure any RB runs harder than Jacobs. Seriously, check out this epic run, which then set up a one-yard TD for Jacobs.

2) An over-reliance on the run game turned Jordan Love into a pumpkin down the stretch, which essentially reduced the Packers into sitting ducks in any game with a trailing game script.

It certainly didn't help that the Packers WRs were dropping like flies. Both Romeo Doubs (head) and Jayden Reed  (shoulder) left the game with injuries, further hamstringing the passing game.

Still, it's hard to be a serious football team in 2025 if you can't balance a solid run game with a competent passing attack.

Jacobs ended up being a home run in free agency, but they'll need to find a better balance with the passing attack to be a contender in 2025.
