Tuesdays are typically a big night for baseball, and this Tuesday is no exception. All 30 teams are slated to take the field, with each game starting at 6:40 p.m. ET or later. The weather also looks pretty good, with only the game between the Cubs and White Sox showing any real potential for rain.

Let’s dive into a few of my favorite betting options for Tuesday’s slate.

MLB Bets Today – Picks for Tuesday, June 4

San Diego Padres ML at Los Angeles Angels (-108; FanDuel)

The Padres will be sending one of their top prospects to the bump for the first time at the major league level. Adam Mazur will make his MLB debut, which brings about a bit of uncertainty. Even the best prospects can struggle to make the leap from the minors to the majors, so there’s always a bit of risk when targeting a new pitcher.

Still, I’m willing to bet on the talent of Mazur in this matchup. Mazur’s best trait is his ability to fill up the strike zone. He’s walked just 26 batters across 147.1 minor-league innings, which translates to about 1.6 per nine innings. If he can avoid the free passes against the Angels, he should be able to find success: their offense is merely 26th in wRC+ against right-handed pitchers.

Once Mazur departs, the gap between these two teams gets even larger. The Padres have one of the best bullpens in baseball – they rank eighth in xFIP – while the Angels have one of the worst. Add in a sizable offensive advantage for San Diego, and we’re getting a nice value with the Padres at just -108.

Atlanta Braves-Boston Red Sox Under 8.0 runs (+100; Caesars)

Runs should be at a premium between the Braves and Red Sox on Tuesday. The Braves will send Max Fried to the bump, who remains an ace-caliber pitcher. His ERA currently sits at 2.97, and he limits the damage on balls in play better than any pitcher in baseball. His 63.2% groundball rate ranks in the 98th percentile, while his 28.6% hard-hit rate ranks in the 95th. He should be able to take care of business against a Red Sox squad that ranks 20th in wRC+ vs. left-handers.

On the other side, Kutter Crawford has emerged as a frontline starter for the Red Sox. He boasts a 3.29 ERA and a 3.69 xERA, and he’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in eight of 12 outings. He has been hit hard in back-to-back starts, but those have come against excellent offensive teams in the Orioles and Brewers.

The Braves’ offense certainly isn’t a walk in the park, but they’re a lot less intimidating at the moment. Ronald Acuna is out for the year, and Atlanta ranks just 18th in wRC+ vs. right-handers over the past 14 days. Ultimately, I’m expecting the pitching to have the upper hand in this contest.

More MLB Bets for Tuesday, June 4

Brewers ML at Phillies (+143)

The Phillies have felt unbeatable at times this season, combining an elite pitching staff with one of the best offenses in baseball. However, Cristopher Sanchez is one of their weaker starters. His 3.79 xERA is nearly a full run higher than his actual mark, so he’s a regression candidate moving forward. The Brewers are an excellent team in their own right, so I’ll take my chances with them as moderate road dogs.

Jack Flaherty Under 6.5 strikeouts (-150)

Jack Flaherty has had a resurgence for the Tigers in 2024, with his 2.53 xERA ranking in the 94th percentile. He’s also had the strikeout pitch working, racking up 90 punchouts in just 67.2 innings. Still, getting to seven punchouts vs. the Rangers might be too much to ask. They have the fifth-lowest strikeout rate against right-handers this season, and their offense is capable of doing damage. It’s always scary to take the under on a pitcher like Flaherty, but I think this figure offers some value.
