New York Yankees vs. Los Angeles Angels

New York is dead last in the AL East after being the preseason favorite to win the division.

This is the latest point in the season where the Yankees have been in last place for nearly three decades.

The offense for the Yankees seems lifeless as of late.

Aaron Judge is coming off the best year of his career but has been limited in action this season as he continues to deal with an injury. Since Judge has left the lineup, the Yankees have struggled to string together wins.

The positive news for New York is that they still have a chance of making a run and finding their way into the playoffs.

  • Josh Donaldson is having the worst year of his big league career as he is batting .142.
  • Anthony Rizzo continues to struggle as he is hitting .247 compared to his lifetime average of .264.
  • Giancarlo Stanton has struggled to stay healthy, and from an average standpoint, his numbers are way down, as he is batting just .196 on the campaign.

The only reason this team is four games above .500 is their pitching.

As a team, the Yankees rank 8th in baseball with a team ERA of 3.86.

The Yankees bullpen, in particular, has been outstanding as they rank number one in baseball with an ERA of 3.27.

The Angels have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball over the last few years.

This franchise has the two best baseball players on planet Earth, yet they have made the playoffs just once in the Mike Trout era.

Shohei Ohtani has essentially locked himself in to win league MVP.

Ohtani may be the most talented baseball player of all time. Ohtani is batting .307, leading the league in home runs with thirty-five. If that was not impressive enough, Ohtani is 7-5 with an ERA of 3.50.

Fellow superstar Mike Trout will not be on the field tonight as he recovers from an injury. Trout is expected to return soon.

Anthony Rendon will also miss tonight's game as he returns to the DL. Rendon has been a bust since inking a contract with the Angels in 2020.

Despite the injuries, the Angels rank 7th in baseball in team runs per game.

Pitching has been the issue for the Angles, as they rank 21st in baseball in team ERA (4.49).

Pick: New York Yankees ML (-140, DraftKings)

Carlos Rodon will toe the rubber tonight for the Yankees.

Rodon was one of the Yankee's big off-season moves after he turned in an all-star-level season with the San Francisco Giants.

The southpaw began the year on the IL, but has since returned on July 7th and has two starts under his belt on the season. He was below average in his last start vs. the Rockies when he pitched five innings, allowing four earned runs.

Rodon has been one of the top pitchers in baseball, as he supported an ERA of 2.88 in 2022 and an ERA of 2.37 in 2021.

Rodon has good lifetime numbers vs. this Angels lineup as they bat just .235 vs. the lefty.

Chase Silseth will get the ball for the Angels tonight., he is only 1-1 on the year with an ERA of 5.30. He will act as the opener tonight, as the Yankees will likely see multiple arms out of the Angels bullpen.

This should be an advantage for the Yankees tonight, as the Angels have one of the worst bullpens in baseball (ERA 4.29).
