Sunday may be a day of rest, but there’s no resting in the world of sports. This Sunday is going to be particularly busy. Someone will walk away with a green jacket at the Masters, while the NBA regular season will come to a close.

That said, don’t forget about baseball. All 30 teams are scheduled to be in action, with most of the games taking place in the early afternoon. Eleven contests will take place at 2:10 p.m. ET or earlier, followed by three late afternoon contests and Sunday Night Baseball.

Let’s dive into five of my favorite betting options for Sunday’s MLB slate.

MLB Bets Today – Sunday, April 14

Miami Marlins F5 ML vs. Atlanta Braves (+124; DraftKings)

Things couldn’t have gone any worse for the Marlins to start the year. They’ve won just three of their first 15 games, but they are at least trending in the right direction. They’ve beat the Braves and Yankees in two of their past three contests after starting the year 1-11.

The Marlins will have a chance to keep the momentum rolling on Sunday. They’ll send Jesus Luzardo to the bump, who was their best pitcher last season. He pitched to a 3.58 ERA and 3.55 FIP across 32 starts, adding 10.48 strikeouts per nine innings.

Luzardo hasn’t had the same success to start 2024, but his elite stuff is still there. Walks have been an issue – he’s up from 2.77 walks per nine innings in 2023 to 5.40 this season – but he’s still racked up a 10.2 K/9. His 4.44 xERA still isn’t spectacular, but I’m a believer in the talent level overall.

I give the Marlins an edge on the mound over the Braves, who will start Charlie Morton. The 40-year-old is past his prime, averaging fewer strikeouts and more walks per nine innings than in previous years. It hasn’t burnt Morton yet, but his advanced stats are all significantly worse than his 3.18 ERA.

This seems like an excellent opportunity to buy low on Luzardo and sell high on Morton. I like the Marlins on the first five moneyline at anything better than +120.

Los Angeles Angels-Boston Red Sox F5 Under 5.0 (-120; BetMGM)

Sunday’s matchup between the Angels and Red Sox features a sneaky-good pitching matchup. The Red Sox will turn to Brayan Bello, who has frontline starter potential. He was the No. 38 prospect in all of baseball last season (per FanGraphs) and posted a respectable 4.24 ERA in his first big league campaign. Bello has a 3.79 xERA through his first three starts this season, and he’s allowing fewer walks per nine innings than he did as a rookie.

Meanwhile, Tyler Anderson has been outstanding for the Angels. He’s pitched 14 scoreless innings to start the year, and despite some paltry strikeout numbers, his production doesn’t feel fluky. His Statcast data has been excellent, resulting in a 2.52 xERA. He’s obviously not going to pitch to a zero ERA all season, but I’m not expecting him to turn into a pumpkin.

With two quality starters on the bump, I like the Under on 5.0 runs for the first five innings.

More MLB Bets for Sunday, April 14

A’s ML vs. Nationals (-124) – Trevor Williams has had an excellent start for the Nationals this season, but he’s a journeyman pitcher who posted a 5.55 ERA last season. Most of the major projection systems have him pegged above 5.00 for this year, so I’m expecting regression. I give the A’s a solid edge with Alex Wood, who has proven to be a capable starter.

Royals-Mets F5 Under 4.0 (-110) – This is another spot where I’m expecting pitching to reign supreme. The Royals will send their ace to the mound in Cole Ragans, while Jose Butto will look to build off a strong first start for the Mets in 2024 (2.75 FIP, 9.0 K/9). They should be able to keep these offenses at bay.

Padres-Dodgers Over 9.0 (+100) – I’m looking to the offenses for Sunday Night Baseball. Yu Darvish has taken a major step back over the past few seasons, while James Paxton has gotten extremely fortunate to start his Dodgers’ tenure. His 4.43 FIP is nearly three runs higher than his ERA, so I like both offenses to put some runs on the board.
