Los Angeles Angels vs. Houston Astros

The Houston Astros vs. the Los Angeles Angels will clash from the city of Angels on Sunday Night.

The Angels have had a disappointing season thus far, and they will need to heat up in a hurry if they want to make a run at the postseason. Despite having two of the best players in baseball in Mike Trout and Shohei Otani ,The Angles have struggled to put together a string of consistent play.

Ohtani is batting .302 on the season with a league-high thirty-two home runs and seventy-two runs batted in. As if that is not impressive enough, Ohtani has been dynamite on the mound this season, supporting an ERA of 3.50 and a record of 7-5.

On the other side, the Astros are now just three games back of the Texas Rangers, winning six of their last ten. There are many stars on this Houston offense, but from a statistical standpoint, the best one has been outfielder Kyle Tucker

Tucker earned himself a trip to the all-star game this season, batting .291 on the campaign while driving in a team-high sixty runs.

Alex Bregman has struggled on the season for Houston supporting a batting average of just .238. Bregman is a lifetime .273 hitter, so you have to figure that he will heat up and increase on those numbers sooner than later.

Houston ranks sixth in baseball in runs allowed per game with a team ERA of 4.15.

The star of this rotation has been southpaw Framber Valdez. Valdez leads the team in wins with seven and leads the team in ERA, pitching to the tune of a 2.76 ERA. Houston's bullpen has been well above league average, ranking ninth in baseball in bullpen ERA (3.67).

Pick: Houston Astros ML -130

Cristian Javier will toe the rubber tonight for Dusty Baker and the Astors.

Javier has really struggled as of late as he has allowed eighteen runs over his last three starts in 10,2 innings of work. Those last few starts have inflated the ERA of Javier up to 4.34 on the season.

Javier is better than those numbers indicate, as before his last three starts, he had an ERA of 2.90 in his fourteen starts. I would rather put stock into fourteen starts than three.

The all-star break could not have come at a better time for Javier as he has not pitched since July 3rd. Javier has good numbers against this current Angels lineup, as he has a .238 batting average against the Halos.

Tyler Anderson will toe the rubber for the Angels tonight. Anderson was one of the Angel's big off-season signings as they looked to improve their starting pitching.

Anderson has not delivered this season for Los Angeles.

He enters play on not a great streak:

  • He’s allowing an ERA of 5.25.
  • Opponents are batting .278 against him.
  • Right-handed hitters are hitting .295 ith an OBP of .357.

The current Astros lineup has some outstanding numbers vs. Anderson, as they are batting .407 with an OBP of .515.
