Dynasty Fantasy Football Guide To Week 15: A TE That Checks Every Box
The fantasy football process looks (roughly) the same, regardless of the format you play—fantasy football waiver wire research on Tuesdays, trade considerations throughout the middle of the week, and setting lineups toward the end of the week.
That said, there are subtle nuances that dynasty fantasy football managers have to pay attention to in order to alter their strategy. To assist, I'll be consolidating everything a Dynasty Fantasy Football manager needs to know to prepare for the week at hand.
Dynasty Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Target For Week 15
Jalen Tolbert, WR - Cowboys
The Cowboys have been lacking consistent production from any wideout not named CeeDee Lamb all season, but it looks like there might be something going on with third-year option Jalen Tolbert.
Tolbert, who has had an uninspiring start to his career, has been serviceable at times in Year 3. He's up to four TDs on the season and has six games with 40-plus receiving yards. It's nothing to write home about but when we're looking for inexpensive, available players, we have to take what we can get.
As we've seen this season, and in almost every previous season, all it takes is a player finding the right fit, seizing on an opportunity, and making the most of it to turn a relatively unknown asset into a productive fantasy piece for dynasty managers.
Trade Targets for Dynasty Fantasy Football
Tucker Kraft, TE - Packers
The Packers have one of the youngest, deepest offensive skill groups in the NFL. That's great for the team, but it can be frustrating for fantasy managers trying to figure out which players to both draft and start each week.
Just ask Jayden Reed managers how they're feeling after Thursday night (not great).
Aside from Reed, you have Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Tucker Kraft as viable playmakers. Heck, even some guy named Bo Melton makes an appearance every few weeks.
The point is, when there's uncertainty, there's opportunity. We talk about it a lot when we discuss ambiguous backfields—when there's no clear-cut starter, savvy managers lean into the confusion and sometimes come away with significant value.
Kraft, the second-year TE, is quietly ascending the dynasty rankings. His production this season has been bolstered by strong TD numbers (7 TDs on his last 33 receptions), but he still checks many of the boxes we want in a young, fantasy-relevant option.
A closer look at this season will show that he's starting to become a near-every-down player as well. Over his last seven games, his route participation has been north of 90% and he's averaging double-digit fantasy points during that time as well.
Context does matter, though. His last two games, which saw him register target share marks of 23% and 28% respectively, came without Doubs (concussion) on the field. When this roster is fully healthy, there are multiple ways for Green Bay to move the ball down the field.
However, in the end, guys like Kraft are the types of players I want on my dynasty team—young, athletic, every-down players, who are tied to strong HC/QB tandems. Kraft checks every box and he should find his way onto your roster soon.
Bryce Young, QB - Panthers
Maybe the Carolina Panthers were onto something when they drafted Bryce Young ahead of C.J. Stroud last year. It just took a tumultuous rookie campaign for Young to finally start showing some signs that he could potentially become a franchise QB.
I remember having several conversations with people last year about the Young / Stroud comparison and my general takeaway was this—Young was likely better than he showed in Year 1 and Stroud would likely regress a little bit heading into Year 2.
The polar opposite paths of their respective rookie seasons made Young's struggles look that much worse. Now, he's starting to turn it around.
Over his last six games, Young has topped 15 PPR five times and has averaged 22-plus PPR in three straight contests.
Let's hope that Carolina continues to build around their young QB. They extended Chuba Hubbard and drafted Jonathon Brooks so the backfield looks solid for now but they desperately need more weapons in the passing game. Adam Thielen should not be your leading WR at this stage in his career.
Expected reinforcements for Young coming soon. I don't mind aggressively targeting him in SF dynasty formats as a QB2 or QB3, regardless of my current roster construction.
Player to Trade Away in Dynasty Leagues
DK Metcalf, WR - Seahawks
Let's get a tiny bit hot take-y for a second. Bear with me.
DK Metcalf has peaked as a dynasty asset. The Seattle Seahawks receiving room now belongs to and will remain in the possession of sophomore wideout Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
JSN's rookie season wasn't "bad", per say, but it was underwhelming for a prospect of his pedigree and draft capital. However, he's officially arrived as an alpha WR1 in Year 2. To put it in perspective, here's how he compares with Metcalf over their last four games together.
JSN (Weeks 11-14)
- 10 targets/110 receiving yards/0TD (21.8 PPR)
- 6/77/1 (19.7 PPR)
- 4 /74/0 (11.9 PPR)
- 5/82/1 (19.6 PPR)
Metcalf (Weeks 11-14)
- 7/70/0 (14.0 PPR)
- 4/59/0 (9.9 PPR)
- 4/66/0 (10.6 PPR)
- 4/49/0 (8.9 PPR)
It's not even close anymore. Sure, Metcalf can and will still post some blowup games because of his other-wordly physique, but he's no longer the clear-cut WR1 for this franchise. Dynasty managers should take advantage of his name brand value and relative youth while they can and cash out for a haul. I don't mind being a year (or two) early on pivoting off of a player while they're in their prime, especially if there are already clear signs of a shift in pecking order.
Sometimes, these are the opportunities we look back on and wish we would have capitalized on while we had the chance. Don't be afraid to take some big swings with your dynasty roster in the weeks and months ahead.
Dynasty Fantasy Football Breakout Watch
Xavier Legette, WR - Panthers
While his QB has experienced a late-season surge, rookie wideout Xavier Legette hasn't quite lived up to his potential, yet.
I mentioned how Young has played exceptionally well over the last six weeks. Unfortunately, that didn't translate to Legette leveling up his production. During that time, the rookie had just two double-digit fantasy performances but hasn't topped 10 points in four straight.
All that being said, I'm holding out hope for an end-of-season boost in production that will hopefully translate to next season.
Legette came in at WR11 in our Rookie WR Model but does carry Round 1 draft capital.
Legette's size (6-foot-3, 227 pounds) allows him to win at different levels of the field. Admittedly, he has been struggling a bit with drops, especially on Sunday when he dropped a potential game-winning TD. Still, the fact that he's on the field and earning targets bodes well for the future.
If I'm going to hype up Young in dynasty formats, someone else needs to be coming along for the ride. It can't be Thielen at this stage of his career so that leaves Legette as the hope for the future. While the Panthers will (and should) likely add WR help this offseason, Legette should see his role and value grow in the months and seasons ahead.
