The fantasy football process looks (roughly) the same, regardless of the format you play—fantasy football waiver wire research on Tuesdays, trade considerations throughout the middle of the week, and setting lineups toward the end of the week.

That said, there are subtle nuances that dynasty fantasy football managers have to pay attention to in order to alter their strategy. To assist, I'll be consolidating everything a Dynasty Fantasy Football manager needs to know to prepare for the week at hand.

Dynasty Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Target For Week 17

Parker Washington, WR - Jaguars

If you haven't yet begun this particular exercise, let me explain. It's one of my favorite off-season topics to dive into each and every year.

It's time to start projecting what offensive lineups will look like next season.

Yes, I know the NFL Draft, free agency, and trades will shake things up like they always do but we can make some relatively confident calls about roster spots, especially for young players. There's one sophomore in particular that I'm excited to follow as he enters Year 3 – Parker Washington.

A sixth-round draft pick by the Jaguars in 2023, Washington didn't earn his first target until Week 13 when he hauled in all six targets for 61 yards and a score. He followed that up with another TD in Week 14 and 10 more targets across Weeks 15 & 16.

However, a strong finish didn't translate to this season. The team drafted Brian Thomas and signed Gabe Davis to join Christian Kirk as the main trio. Washington saw just 18 targets from Weeks 1-11.

However, following a Week 12 bye, Washington has turned it on. Davis (knee) and Kirk (collarbone) were both lost for the season months ago but it's been great to see Washington finally step up and earn more opportunities.

Over his last four games, he's averaged:

  • 6.5 targets
  • 56.5 receiving yards
  • 11.9 PPR

Those aren't world-beating numbers but he's been more than serviceable on an offense that desperately needs WR help outside of Thomas. We'll see how this offseason goes for Davis & Kirk but it was reported that Kirk was a strong trade candidate even before he was lost for the season.

Washington is a fine stash option for any dynasty manager out there as he offers unique upside on an offense that we hope can continue to grow and evolve under Trevor Lawrence.

Trade Targets for Dynasty Fantasy Football

Dalton Schultz, TE - Texans

In a similar vein as the aforementioned Washington, it's a good time to start looking at what the Houston Texans offense will look like next season. After a stellar rookie campaign, C.J. Stroud has come back to Earth in a big way this season. He now has nine games with less than 20 fantasy points.

Veteran wideout Stefon Diggs suffered an ACL tear earlier in the season and emerging star Tank Dell suffered a gruesome knee injury in Week 16. Needless to say, there's going to be a significant gap in their passing attack outside of Nico Collins.

Instead of trying to figure out which wideout will be the next man up, I'm just going to pivot to the No. 2 pass-catching option who happens to play TE – Dalton Schultz.

Schultz enjoyed a breakout season back in 2021 with the Dallas Cowboys but he's averaged 90-plus targets a season going on five years now. In a one-game sample, he stepped up after Dell went down and hauled in his second TD in his last three games.

The future WR2 of this team (assuming health) is Dell, but the Texans could address the position through the draft or free agency. While others try to galaxy-brain their way to the correct call at WR, I would much rather pivot to Schultz and lock up a solid TE for my dynasty squad.

Rome Odunze, WR - Bears

They have to figure it out at some point, right? Right?!

I couldn't imagine the Bears could bungle Caleb Williams this bad, but I guess it just shows why this franchise can never get the QB position right.

Assuming the coaching staff gets overhauled this offseason, I am aggressively interested in soon-to-be second-year WR Rome Odunze.

Yes, DJ Moore is the defacto WR1, and old man Keenan Allen continues to turn back the clock with five TDs in his last five games, but it's Odunze who has the most upside moving forward.

A top-10 pick last spring, Odunze has everything you want in a pro-ready prospect. He just needs a competent offensive system and another year of growth to move past Allen and establish himself as a viable fantasy (and NFL) threat. His price will never be lower.

Player to Trade Away in Dynasty Leagues

Deebo Samuel, WR - 49ers

Let's get ahead of the curve a little bit and use this week's performance as the perfect excuse to offload veteran wideout Deebo Samuel in dynasty formats.

Hey, sometimes you gotta call your shots when you have the opportunity to do so.

Heading into Week 16, Samuel was on a career-worst streak. He had gone five straight games without breaking SEVEN fantasy points. Remember, this is that dual-threat weapon who wasn't competing with either Christian McCaffrey or Brandon Aiyuk for touches.

In fact, coming into this weekend, he had just one game with 20+ points (Week 6). Then, with the 49ers so decimated at RB that they rolled out Patrick Taylor, Samuel finally erupted to the tune of 25.1 fantasy points.

It was likely too little too late for fantasy managers. I hope you all enjoyed that monster performance in the losers' bracket.

Samuel is getting old (he'll be 29 next month) and has clearly lost that edge that made him so dynamic in this offense. He's under contract for one more season but who knows what this offense will look like in another year or two. Brock Purdy will get paid whether you agree with it or not and the rest of this team is aging and expensive.

Samuel has provided a unique opportunity for you. Ship him off to one of the two teams competing for the title next weekend and reap the rewards while you still can.
