No one wants a stagnant roster. It's time to make some moves.

Let’s get into some buyin’, sellin’ and holdin’.

BUY

Some players are SCORCHING HOT right now and a little too pricey. But others are finally beginning to thaw out… and we just might be able to sneak in before they truly heat up.

This week, we're buying:

BYE Week Blues Price Drops

If you haven’t already, you need to check every single team in your league right now. Put eyes on every one of their lineups. Determine which teams are having to sit BYE players and which teams have no replacements.

Long story short: Someone is bound to be f*cked by the teams on bye in Week 5. If your team is strong enough to hold a player on your bench for a week, you should go out and buy their bye player at a potential panic discount.

Here are some notable players you may be able to secure in a trade from a desperate manager with bye week holes:

Buy PHI Eagles

  • WR DeVonta Smith - Not only is Smith unplayable in Week 5, he's also recovering from a concussion that held him out in Week 4. Monitor his health, but this could be a great time to buy “low.”
  • WR AJ Brown - Managers haven't been able to start Brown since Week 1, when he hauled in five receptions for 119 yards and a TD. Now they have to sit him for yet another week with the PHI's Bye. BUY BUY BUY from your frustrated Brown manager.
  • RB Saquon Barkley - I wish you could get Saquon Barkley, but managers would be crazy to let him go. Good Luck

Buy LA Chargers

  • RB JK Dobbins - Dobbins could be a fun buy-low target. But given his down weeks, I'd temper my expectations and only target him in trades if your team is on a winning streak.
  • WR Ladd McConkey - Now McConkey is the guy I'm looking at! Not only are the points starting to add up in McConkey's favor each week, but he's also making plays like an absolute DAWG. Come to mama's lineup!

Buy DET Lions

  • RB, WR, TE… Literally all of them (yes, even Sam LaPorta). But it might be hard to pry any of the big names away from your leaguemates after the Lions' huge Week 4 performance. But, hey, if the Amon-Ra St. BrownJameson WilliamsJahmyr Gibbs or David Montgomery managers are in a bind… it can’t hurt to shoot your shot, right? Get cute. Toss a few trade offers their way.

Buy TEN Titans

  • Well, actually… on second thought: You should just let these guys rest on your leaguemate’s bench for now.

Again, if your team is strong enough to bench a player, this is the move. Swoop on in and stash those bye players. BUTTTT if you’ve got some roster holes of your own in Week 5… just wait. There will be more bye-week buying opportunities in the future.

SELL

We need to read between the lines and think about selling inconsistency. This week, we're selling:

TE Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles

You’ve got a choice to make here. This is Fantasy Life’s very own Choose Your TE Adventure, if you will.

Dallas Goedert is currently the TE1 through four weeks (24-301-0) in a fantasy landscape that is ABYSMALLY BLEAK at the TE position. Pretty great, right?!

However, most of Goedert’s success has come from the absences of AJ Brown (Weeks 2-4) and DeVonta Smith (Week 4), who were ruled out due to injuries. It’s possible that one, if not both, wideouts return after PHI’s Bye in Week 5.

So your choice is this:

Red Pill: Recognize that Goedert has highly benefited from key players’ absences in PHI's offense. Understand that his success could decrease substantially when Brown and Smith return, when Goedert could settle back into “3 catches for 30 yards” territory. Sell now before you have to find out (and before he sits on your bench through his bye).

Blue Pill: Ignore the surrounding context and focus on the fact that Goedert is one of the very few TEs to see double-digit targets during a single game this season. He also eclipsed 150 receiving yards in Week 3 (TE1) — a stat that no other TE has accomplished yet in 2024. WRs be damned — he’s earned his role! Hold steady.

What will it be, Neo?

Me? I’m taking the red pill and fielding offers. Especially with PHI on Bye in Week 5.

HOLD

Sometimes a trade isn't worth the return. This week, we're holding:

TE Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs (again)

Damn. I guess we’re back in on feeling hopeful?

It doesn’t take much to spark excitement in tight ends in 2024. But the Chiefs NEED to throw the ball more in Isiah Pacheco’s absence. That, along with the loss of both Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice as receiving options, combine to make a fruitful Kelce Cocktail of Hope.

Theoretically speaking, Kelce should see more targets and opportunities than he has so far, now that he is one of the few weapons available to Patrick Mahomes. And statistically speaking, we're already seeing the uptick.

But the real reason we’re holding Kelce is because there’s not much out there to replace him at the position. And at this point, Kelce’s (hopefully) five to 10 targets a game will have to suffice.

Plus, who knows… maybe he’ll start catching TDs again? *Crosses fingers, toes, arms, and legs*
