The following fantasy hockey goalie rankings for 2024 have been formulated based on traditional fantasy league stats including Wins/Loss, GAA, shutouts, and SV%.

Overall upside is considered first and foremost, with a goalie’s chance for high start volume, wins, and/or breakout potential considered first.

Factors such as quality of backup (chance of getting replaced), regression or injury potential, along with overall quality of team (defensive and offensive support), have also been weighed in the rankings.

For the rest of my fantasy hockey positional rankings, see below:

Without further ado, here are my 2024 fantasy hockey goalie rankings, plus a few targets, values, and fades.

Best Goalies for Fantasy Hockey 2024

Jusee Saros, Nashville Predators

Most rankings I’ve seen will have Igor Shesterkin as their No. 1, and ranking him there is a no-brainer. However, ranking the next five to seven goalies behind Shesterkin is a much more difficult task, and there will be tons of differing opinions on where and how to rank this next tier of goalies.

I have Saros listed as my No. 2 for the season, which is higher than most. It’s extremely close between Saros, Swayman, Oettinger, and Hellebuyck but the moves the Predators made this offseason make it quite clear they are looking to make a serious move in the Western Conference. Saros is also still just 29 and while he’s coming off a bit of a down season he still managed to win 35 games last year.

Given the moves the Predators made, that win total almost seems like the floor for Saros in 2024-25 if he stays healthy.

Jacob Markstrom, New Jersey Devils

Markstrom is now 34 years old, so there is some obvious age regression and injury concerns lurking in the background. Still, 2024-25 sets up as a great bounce-back spot for the Swede who won 37 games and posted a .922 SV% in 2021-22 with Calgary. The Flames' roster has declined significantly since then, and Markstrom hasn’t been able to put up similar numbers playing in front of a worse supporting cast.

With his move to the Devils, he now gets a chance to show that he can still produce elite-level starter numbers. The Devils have Jake Allen as a bit of an insurance policy, but if Markstrom starts strong he should have a shot at starting 55-plus games.

The upside is what matters here. The Devils have an amazing roster. If they gel under new head coach Sheldon Keefe, Markstrom could push toward 35-plus wins.

Goalie Value Picks for Fantasy Hocket 2024

Andrei Vasilevskiy, Tampa Bay Lightning

Value doesn’t necessarily just mean cheap overall — just cheap relative to his peers. If Vasilevskiy regains his form, he’s a top-five goalie in the league, period, and should play a ton this season with Jonas Johansson as the backup.

If you miss out on the top five or six options, Vasilevskiy is a good way to potentially make up some ground on your leaguemates. At the very least, he should play a ton.

Linus Ullmark, Ottawa Senators

Linus Ullmark has downside risk, as he’s now in Ottawa but his upside is significant. The 31-year-old is just one season removed from a Vezina-winning campaign and is slotted to play a heavy workload with Ottawa carrying Anton Forsberg as their backup.

Ullmark’s numbers slipped a bit last season but he still posted a .915 SV% and has posted SV%’s of .915 or better in five straight years. If Ottawa’s roster outperforms even just a touch this season, Ullmark could deliver some big returns for drafters who take a shot on him in the mid-rounds.

Cam Talbot, Detroit Red Wings

Talbot is a decent tandem target if you miss out on a top name. Detroit is still an up-and-coming team, and Talbot posted a .913 SV% in 52 starts with the Kings. The 37-year-old should be in line to play a big workload with Alex Lyon as the backup.

Goalies to Avoid in Fantasy Hockey 2024

Sergei Bobrovsky, Florida Panthers

The Panthers look like they’ll be working in Spencer Knight this season who posted five Shutouts in the AHL last year.

Knight is still a high-end prospect and Bobrovsky is 35, coming off a long playoff run, and hasn’t been a truly dominant regular-season goalie for years. I have him ranked 8th just because he’s attached to such a high-end team in the Panthers, but his upside feels worse than most of the players ranked directly in front or behind him.
