The following fantasy hockey winger rankings for 2024 have been formulated based on traditional fantasy league stats including points, assists, powerplay points, shots on goal, blocks, and plus/minus.

The overall upside is considered first and foremost with a player’s ceiling in the vital scoring categories considered first and foremost.

For the rest of my fantasy hockey positional rankings, see below:

Factors such as age, opportunity, history, and overall quality of the team have also been weighed in the rankings.

Best Wingers for Fantasy Hockey 2024

Nikita Kucherov, RW (Tampa Bay Lightning)

Even with the loss of Steven Stamkos, I think there is still a decent gap between Kucherov and the next tier of winger. The addition of Jake Guentzel should keep the Tampa Bay power play humming as a top-5 to 10 unit and allow the shifty playmaker to pile up a ton of assists and ppp again.

Kuchareov was also within 5 goals of both 2nd and 3rd ranked David Pastrnak and Artemi Panarin last season and I don’t necessarily see either one of those players in a position to dramatically outperform their totals from last year. This is all really a long way of saying that if you have a top pick and the first two or three centers are off the board, don’t overthink things and just grab Kucherov.

Filip Forsberg (Nashville Predators)

I don’t tend to love grabbing players who are coming in off career seasons but Forsberg will be working with the most talented roster the Predators have fielded since he came into the league. You could argue he may lose some opportunities with Stamkos and Marchessault now both a part of the power play for the Predators but I’d also look for that stronger supporting cast and second line to allow Forsberg a little more space this season.

I have him ranked higher than most and think we’ll see him crack that 50-goal barrier in 2024-25.

Fantasy Hockey Value Picks for 2024

Alex Ovechkin, LW (Washington Capitals)

Ovechkin needs 42 goals this year to break the all-time goal-scoring record held by Wayne Gretzky. I don’t tend to like betting against generational players when these kinds of milestones are within reach and the Capitals did reload somewhat this season to provide Ovechkin some support.

The 39-year-old did see his production dip last season to 0.39 goals per game, but he finished strong. He scored 23 goals over his last 36 games which equates to a 52-goal pace. He’s no lock but 40+ goals from the Russian at his current valuation would equate to some very strong fantasy returns and from an upside perspective he does present as solid upper-to-mid-round value.

Jordan Kyrou, LW (St. Louis Blues)

I think Kyrou is a decent breakout candidate and a player who could set some career highs this season. At 26, he’s coming into his prime age of production and he plays on a Blues team where he’ll face very little competition for opportunities, especially on the power play.

On that note, St. Louis’ power play does have some room for positive regression and the Blues improved significantly on the power play under new Head Coach Drew Bannister (from 31st to 13th (22.8) under Bannister).

At his current ADP, it’s hard to make an argument against the winger who has better upside than most of the players he is being drafted around.

Wingers to Fade in Fantasy Hockey 2024

Sam Reinhart, RW (Florida Panthers)

Reinhart scored a career-high 57 goals last year. As such, he’s now coming off the board much higher than he has been in the past and people who take the Panthers winger will almost need him to duplicate or come close to duplicating his 2023-24 numbers.

Straight up, Reinhart’s 24% shooting percentage from last season was otherworldly and unsustainable. If he starts falling in ADP then sure, he’ll be a reliable first-line winger, but as of now, I’d much rather look for better value than pay up and have to rely on him shooting the lights out for a second year in a row.

Chris Kreider, RW (New York Rangers)

Kreider is heading into his mid-30s and now approaching a potential age cliff. He’s always been a very special teams-oriented plate and those kinds of stats can be volatile–he had just 17 ppp in 2022-23, compared to 29 ppp in 2023-24. On that note, while Kreider will obviously still be a big part of the power play for New York, Alexis Lafreinne does look ready to take on a bigger role. If he is, that could eventually cut into Kreider’s production enough to make his current valuation a little pricy.
