Here are some notes heading into Week 3:

QB Rankings - Rest of Season

  • I moved C.J. Stroud (QB5 ROS) into the top-5 QBs over Anthony Richardson (QB6 ROS), but have a feeling that this may not be the last time I make the change. Richardson’s ceiling is elevated thanks to the increased number of designed rushing attempts, but he’s failed to complete over half of his pass attempts in back-to-back weeks, and he has yet to see the goal line. I prefer the safer floor that Stroud provides and am excited about the possibility of increased rushing opportunities with Joe Mixon (RB9 ROS) missing some time with a right ankle injury.

  • Caleb Williams (QB16 ROS) drops a few spots after another bad road game and could be up for another challenge when the Bears open at home against the Rams in Week 3. Williams is getting the passing opportunity but hasn’t had a healthy stable of WRs to even scratch the surface of consistency.

  • Both Derek Carr (QB19 ROS) and Sam Darnold (QB21 ROS) see bumps this week after hot starts this season. Carr is QB4 on the season with a favorable 9.2 YPA and Darnold QB9 with 8.8 YPA, with each QB completing over 72% of their passes. Carr has a nice string of games lined up through Week 8, so it should be fun to see if he can sustain this production.

  • I’m not expecting Tua Tagovailoa (QB30 ROS) to play another snap this season, but I also understand the reality that he may if all the stars align. Until he’s ruled out for the season, he’ll have to be ranked somewhere.

  • Rankings updates for other QBs on the injury report include Jordan Love (QB11 ROS) and Justin Herbert (QB18 ROS).

RB Rankings - Rest of Season

  • De’Von Achane (RB5 ROS) looked phenomenal in a game where the Dolphins never saw a lead nor scored a touchdown beyond 6 minutes of regulation.  Through two games, Achane has a UR Score of 9.1 and should see more work with Tagovailoa out indefinitely. With an early Bye (Week 6) and some favorable games surrounding it, Achane should continue to strive.

  • Similarly, Alvin Kamara (RB10 ROS) moves into the top 10 RBs after dominating touches on a throttled snap share (55%). The Carr-led Saints appear to be for real this season, and with rushing and receiving production offered by Kamara out of the backfield, it’s fun not to get excited. His usage against the Eagles in Week 3 should paint a clearer picture of what to expect moving forward.

  • With Christian McCaffrey (RB20 ROS) sidelined for a minimum of six weeks, it’s tough to get excited about a low-end RB2 ranking, especially considering that he was the overall 1.01. Not to mention, RB20 ROS may appear too high come next week if the trend of worsening news surrounding him continues. Jordan Mason (RB29 ROS) has logged back-to-back top-12 weeks at the position and should see pockets of success while McCaffrey is sidelined. Unfortunately, it’s hard to get excited about either 49ers RB from a ROS standpoint until we know when McCaffrey will take his first snap of 2024.

  • Lastly, I’m conservatively ranking all Chiefs RBs until we get a better grasp on 1) how the timeshare between Samaje Perine (RB57 ROS) and Carson Steele (RB59 ROS) operates, 2) the number of games we may get out of Isiah Pacheco (RB34 ROS) before the fantasy playoffs, and 3) if Clyde Edwards-Helaire (RB55 ROS) will return in Week 5. Until then, this backfield is best worth avoiding, especially with the new signing of Kareem Hunt.

  • Rankings updates for other RBs on the injury report include Kenneth Walker (RB15 ROS), Rachaad White (RB17 ROS), Nick Chubb (RB35 ROS), Tyjae Spears (RB36 ROS), Jonathon Brooks (RB37 ROS), Tank Bigsby (RB50 ROS), Keaton Mitchell (RB67 ROS), and Kendre Miller (RB72 ROS).

WR Rankings - Rest of Season

  • With Pacheco out for several weeks, and Hollywood Brown out for the season, the Chiefs are lucky to have such a bright spot in Rashee Rice (WR7 ROS), who appears to have picked up from and is improving on where he left off in 2023. He is averaging 3.4 targets per route run (TPRR) and should continue to trend upwards as the Chiefs create new ways to score in short-distance-and-goal situations.

  • Malik Nabers (WR12 ROS) moves up three positional spots after a ridiculous 62% target share in Week 2, resulting in a 9.4 UR Score. A true alpha, Nabers commands targets when they matter the most—in the end zone and on 3rd & 4th down.

  • For as long as Skylar Thompson (QB36) is behind center for the Dolphins, Tyreek Hill (WR4 ROS) and Jaylen Waddle WR20 ROS) see small hits. Hill is still a top 5 WR option, since I think the Dolphins provide him with an overabundance of opportunities to simultaneously limit Thompson’s responsibilities.

  • Deebo Samuel (WR26 ROS) injured his calf in the 49ers Week 2 game against the Vikings and, according to HC Kyle Shanahan, is expected to miss “a few weeks.” It’s an unfortunate turn of events for Samuel, who was having a strong start to his season.

  • Similarly, Rams HC Sean McVay confirmed that Cooper Kupp (WR37 ROS) will miss an “extended period of time” and could be a candidate for IR. With Puka Nacua (WR34 ROS) already roaming those streets, there’s not much good news for either side on the Kupp vs. Nacua debate.

  • Through two weeks there are 11 players with more than one receiving touchdown this season and Rashid Shaheed (WR38 ROS) is one of them. He sees one of the biggest ROS rankings bumps after showcasing promising utilization within a very efficient Saints offense.

  • On Monday night, A.J. Brown (WR17 ROS) told Lisa Salters that his hamstring injury will cause him to miss a couple of weeks.

  • Rankings updates for other WRs on the injury report include Justin Jefferson (WR2 ROS), Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR5 ROS), Keenan Allen (WR41 ROS), Jordan Addison (WR57 ROS), Kendrick Bourne (WR88 ROS), and Odell Beckham Jr. (WR96 ROS).

Tight End Rankings - Rest of Season

  • I’ve moved Trey McBride (TE1 ROS) ahead of Sam LaPorta (TE2 ROS) and Travis Kelce (TE3 ROS) for top TE honors. McBride has played on 86% of the Cardinals snaps and currently leads the league in play-action targets (8) thanks to an offense that trails only the Saints in play-action rate.

  • Brock Bowers (TE4 ROS) also received a notable jump among TEs thanks to 16 targets, which currently leads all TEs through two games.

  • Rankings updates for other TEs on the injury report include Evan Engram (TE9 ROS), Jake Ferguson (TE11 ROS), David Njoku (TE14 ROS), and T.J. Hockenson (TE17 ROS).
