The Tennessee Titans blew a 17-point lead to the Bears in Week 1 and never looked back, limping to their fewest wins in a season since 2015.
Six consecutive losses to end the year really drove the point home—this is a BAD football team with very few cornerstones on either side of the football.
And yet, patience has been extended to Head Coach Brian Callahan, who now has the chance to perhaps select his QB of the future with the NFL Draft's No. 1 overall pick … if that is indeed what the Titans are interested in. President of Football Operations Chad Brinker said in January, “We won't pass on a generational talent with the first pick in the NFL draft. We won't do that.”
Today we'll recap some of the good and bad of 2024 before getting into potential offseason injuries to monitor as well as team needs ahead of the 2025 offseason.
As always: It's a great day to be great.
Tennessee Titans 2024 Recap
- Record: 3-14 (6.5 preseason win total)
- Points per game: 18.3 (27th)
- EPA per dropback: -0.056 (27th)
- EPA per rush: -0.175 (29th)
- Points per game allowed: 27.1 (30th)
- Leading passer: Will Levis (2,091 pass yards, 13 TD, 12 INT)
- Leading rusher: Tony Pollard (260 carries, 1,079 yards, 5 TDs)
- Leading receiver: Calvin Ridley (64 receptions, 1,017 yards, 4 TDs)
Biggest surprise: WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine
This could have also gone to Tony Pollard, who regained his elite after-contact ability on his way to racking up 1,317 total yards and five scores on the season.
And yet, how could NWI not get the nod here? His nine TDs were more than guys like Davante Adams (8), A.J. Brown (7), and Tyreek Hill (6) among many others. Sure, some of the scores were of the blown-coverage variety; just realize Westbrook-Ikhine accounting for 27% of the team's offensive TDs is pretty, pretty, pretty wild.
It remains to be seen whether or not Westbrook-Ikhine (unrestricted free agent) is even back in Tennessee next year, but regardless: Kudos to NWI for becoming just the second WR in the last 30-plus years to catch nine TDs on 60 or fewer targets.
Biggest disappointment: QB Will Levis
The Titans were hopeful to find out once and for all if Levis could be their QB of the future this season. The answer … is almost certainly no.
Levis among 34 QBs with 300-plus dropbacks in 2024:
- EPA per dropback: -0.173 (34th)
- Passer rating: 81.4 (29th)
- PFF pass grade: 54.5 (34th)
- Completion percentage over expected: -0.4% (25th)
- Yards per attempt: 6.9 (tied for 22nd)
- Pressure to sack rate: 30.4% (34th)
Levis did continue to flash his ability to complete some true big-time throws, but the meme-worthy turnovers certainly seemed to outweigh the occasional highs. Don't completely close the book on the 25-year-old just yet; just realize the Titans will certainly at least bring in some steep competition ahead of 2025.
Key Injuries
The only somewhat fantasy-relevant injury to keep an eye on this offseason is former first-round pick Treylon Burks' recovery from knee surgery. His ACL was reportedly "loose" but not torn, so hopefully the 24-year-old WR will be ready by training camp.
What Are The Biggest Needs of the Titans Ahead Of 2025?
- Draft picks: 1.01, 2.35, 4.101, 4.118, 5.141, 5.168, 6.179, 7.240
- Effective cap space: $35.9 million (14th)
- 2025 spending: 26th on offense, 3rd on defense
- Key free agents: QB Mason Rudolph, WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, WR Tyler Boyd, TE Nick Vannett, RT Dillon Radunz, RT Daniel Brunskill, LB Jerome Baker, IDL Sebastian Joseph-Day, CB Daryl Worley, S Quandre Diggs, S Mike Brown
Draft a QB in the 2025 NFL Draft
Levis' aforementioned mediocre 2024 campaign and the potential absence of free agent Mason Rudolph leaves the Titans with the league's third-fewest 2025 dollars devoted to the position.
Fantasy Life NFL Draft analysts Thor Nystrom and Matthew Freedman understand this and accordingly have the Titans utilizing the NFL Draft's No. 1 overall pick on the position:
Sam Darnold is the crown jewel of the otherwise meh free agent QB class; it'd be shocking if the Titans don't have new QB competition on the roster by the end of day two of the NFL Draft at the very latest.
Bolster The O-Line For 2025
PFF's 28th-ranked offensive line ranked 30th in yards before contact per carry and 23rd in pressure rate allowed. They currently have the ninth-fewest 2025 dollars devoted to the group, although back-to-back top-11 picks on JC Latham and Peter Skoronski should yield dividends at some point.
But yeah—turning what's been an annual weakness in recent years into something resembling a strength would be great news for all skill-position parties involved.
Rebuild The Receiver Room
More WR help is absolutely needed after the decision to trade DeAndre Hopkins. 2024 starters Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Tyler Boyd are also hitting free agency. Calvin Ridley is a perfectly fine No. 1 (or ideally No. 2) WR, but getting the team's future signal-caller more help on the outside is imperative.
Consider: The Titans ranked 29th in Supporting Cast Rating last season; this really hasn't been an overly good situation for any QB to thrive in since 2020.
