In today's Fantasy Life Newsletter, presented by New Era:

Free Agency news is firing fast and furious.

I feel way behind having been on vacation last week (I bumped into a Fantasy Life reader on the beach, btw), but our NFL Free Agency Tracker has caught me up to speed quickly.

I will admit, though, that the biggest piece of news from yesterday brought me dread.

You might think the Colts signing Daniel Jones to a one-year deal doesn’t move the needle, but I promise you that this QB controversy is going to loom over the entire offseason.

Even before signing Jones, the team made it very clear that they planned to hold a QB competition with Anthony Richardson.

And now with Jones in the fold—who has both similar upside and downside to Richardson—we have all the makings for a long, drawn-out battle that likely will not get resolved until a few weeks before the start of the season.

I still feel scarred from last summer’s never-ending Justin Fields vs. Russell Wilson brouhaha, and now I’m preparing to do it all over again with Indy.

The worst part of the whole ordeal is that it makes both QBs virtually undraftable, especially in early best ball contests where it is a big blow to take a zero from one of your QB spots in the fantasy playoffs.

So, About That QB Competition …

Look, this might not be a barn-burner of a quarterback competition, but with Daniel Jones planning to sign a one-year deal with the Colts, the spotlight is squarely on him and Anthony Richardson to see who will be the Week 1 starting quarterback in Indianapolis.

Both Jones (5.6, 8th) and Richardson (8.2, 2nd) rank top-8 in terms of most fantasy points per game purely from rushing production among QBs. They’ll have their days as streamers, but does this move help the pass catchers in Indy?

IS THERE ANY VALUE AMONG THE COLTS WRs?

Fantasy Football Risers And Fallers During NFL Free Agency

Watching Sam Darnold resurrect his career with an out-of-nowhere 4,319-yard, 35-TD season that saw him finish as fantasy’s QB8 after being largely ignored during draft season was not something anyone could have predicted when he was signed to be the “bridge” QB before the Minnesota Vikings turned the starting job over to rookie J.J. McCarthy. What does Darnold do for an encore now that he’s left the Twin Cities for life with the 12s in Seattle?

Kendall Valenzuela attacked that question and examined a few other players who have moved teams—one stayed home—during the early days of NFL Free Agency. Which players are on the rise, and which ones saw their prospects take a tumble? Kendall has the answers. 👇🏼
