In today's Fantasy Life Newsletter, presented by New Era:
With great power, comes great responsibility.
That’s how I feel about our ongoing vote to determine who will be on the cover of the 2025 Fantasy Life magazine.
And while I do want to respect the democratic process, I also want to make sure we don’t collectively make a mistake.
At the risk of leading the witness, here’s a look at my annotated ballot …
Saquon Barkley & Ja’Marr Chase are the easy choices. I wouldn’t begrudge anyone for voting for either of these two, but it is too chalky for my liking. Both of these guys led their respective positions in fantasy points in 2024 and would be safe choices, but I want to give someone glancing the magazine aisle something more provocative than who was the best last year …
OK, how about the MVP then? Nah, same deal for me. Josh Allen was the 2024 MVP and I want to put the 2025 MVP on the cover. Also, for as good as Allen is, they have an embarrassingly weak WR room. If his rushing prowess ever scaled back, it could get ugly in the fantasy department.
What about Amon-Ra St. Brown? Now this is an interesting choice. ARSB was Matthew’s Ride or Die two years ago and has been a pillar of consistency over the years. But … and I hate that I’m about to say this … isn’t this a somewhat boring pick? Jahmyr Gibbs is the most electric player on the offense and Jameson Williams is heating up, too.
So who is it going to be? Aaron Rodgers in a towel?! No, we’re going with Lamar Jackson as our official coverboy pick. Everything about Jackson and the Ravens screams 2025 to me. They came heartbreakingly close to advancing to the AFC Championship game. Jackson feels primed for another massive fantasy season and a Super Bowl run, especially with the offense fully healthy.
Of all these picks, he’s the one guy on the cover who would make me stop and think…Oh ya, what if he’s the guy I NEED to win my league in 2025 …
OK, NOW IT’S YOUR TIME TO VOTE
