Rest of Season Fantasy Football Rankings Updates
Here are 10 ROS rankings notes heading into Week 7:
1. Upgrades and Downgrades on the Jets After Davante Adams Trade
The reunion of Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams caused the most significant non-injury-related shift in ROS rankings thus far. Currently ranked as the fantasy QB18 with an average of 14.8 FPPG, Rodgers' ceiling is expected to rise, and he has the potential to become a top-12 QB ROS. Adding Adams to an already strong receiving corps, including Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, gives Rodgers the best set of weapons in his career.
Hall's fantasy value stays largely unchanged, with his target share potentially decreasing slightly, but he should still be viewed as a top-tier RB option. Allen Lazard's role diminishes, sliding to team WR3 and becoming a TD-dependent fantasy asset.
Tyler Conklin's fantasy viability takes a hit, as Adams is likely to absorb a substantial portion of targets. Mike Williams becomes largely irrelevant in both the Jets' offense and fantasy football. Ultimately, the addition of Adams should improve the Jets’ offensive efficiency, which could see players like Hall having more favorable game scripts and fewer stacked boxes.
2. Amari Cooper Rest of Season Fantasy Football Rankings Outlook
Through six games this season, Josh Allen has offered four of his WRs a 10% or greater target share. Unfortunately, zero of those WRs are averaging higher than 18% this season, which shines a light on the holes vacated by Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.
Luckily, the Bills made a move on Tuesday that landed them Amari Cooper.
Cooper instantly slides into Buffalo’s WR1 role and should command 5-7 targets per game based on opportunity trends thus far. Cooper has averaged 7.6 targets per game since 2020 and should quickly become one of Allen’s favorite targets. I’m interested to see the kind of earned targets Dalton Kincaid, Khalil Shakir, and Keon Coleman can maintain with Cooper on the field.
3. QB Downgrade in ROS Fantasy Football Rankings
It feels a week too late, but I’ve dropped Anthony Richardson out of the top 12 QBs. He’s been sidelined the last two weeks with an oblique injury and despite HC Shane Steichen indicating that Richardson is “really close” to returning with the expectation of him starting in Week 7, it’s tough to assume he will produce QB1 numbers.
He finished as the QB4 in Week 1 and then followed it up with a QB22 and QB30 finish over his next two healthy games. Not to mention, Richardson is looking at the 7th-toughest strength of schedule (SOS) ROS. He gets to face a beatable Dolphins defense at home in Week 7 followed by an encore performance against the Texans.
These next two games will be very telling for Richardson from a ROS standpoint.
4. QB Upgrade in ROS Fantasy Football Rankings
With Richardson moving down, Baker Mayfield moves up, this time into the top 12.
Mayfield is currently the QB3 thanks to three top-5 finishes so far this season. Through six games, Mayfield has thrown for 1,489 yards with 15 touchdowns and only 5 interceptions, boasting a passer rating of 109.4. His accuracy has been noteworthy, with a completion percentage of 70.9%, and he has demonstrated consistency, throwing for over 300 yards twice and maintaining a passer rating above 100 in four out of six games.
Mayfield's ability to perform under pressure has been clear, as he ranks 1st in passer rating when under pressure this season. Under new OC Liam Coen, the Buccaneers' offense has become more versatile and dynamic. Coen's system emphasizes pre-snap motion, diverse run schemes, and gives Mayfield more control at the line of scrimmage. This approach has allowed Mayfield to showcase his decision-making skills and ability to read defenses effectively. The QBs quick release and accuracy have been crucial in executing the offense's short and intermediate passing game.
Additionally, Mayfield's mobility has added an extra dimension to the Buccaneers' attack, enabling him to extend plays and create opportunities when the pocket breaks down.
As the season progresses, it'll be interesting to see if Mayfield can maintain this high level of play and how it might shape his future in the NFL. His story serves as a reminder of how a change of scenery and the right system can breathe new life into a player's career.
5. Where Do The Steelers Rank in Fantasy Football Rest of Season?
Currently tied atop the AFC North with a 4-2 record, the Steelers find themselves in a complex QB situation. While Justin Fields has led the team to this position, their offense ranks 28th in passing and 20th in scoring. HC Mike Tomlin's consideration of Russell Wilson suggests a desire to elevate the team's performance and Wilson's experience and past success could potentially boost the Steelers' offensive output.
However, Fields' mobility and ball security have been assets, especially considering the lack of effective passing game options beyond a not-lazy-because-I-said-so George Pickens earning a 29% TPRR, and nothing but a short-yardage asset, Pat Freiermuth. There’s currently nothing worth pursuing in this offense.
6. Time To Upgrade Joe Mixon?
In Week 1, Joe Mixon finished as the RB2 after registering 178 all-purpose yards and a TD on 33 touches but suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 that would keep him benched the next three games.
Luckily, Mixon picked up right where he left off in Week 6, generating 132 all-purpose yards and 2 TDs on 15 touches. Mixon returned to health so efficiently, the Texans traded Cam Akers to the Vikings two days later.
Mixon could continue to outperform himself, especially considering the Texans' next three games come against opponents allowing the 10th-, 2nd-, and 7th-most FPPG to opposing RBs this season (@GB, vs. IND, @NYJ).
7. How To Handle the Buccaneers RBs in Fantasy Football
The Buccaneers' backfield has evolved into a dynamic committee, which is obviously bad for you and me, but mostly those still rostering Rachaad White (me again).
The emergence of Bucky Irving, averaging 5.7 YPA, has added complexity to the situation, and Sean Tucker's breakout performance in Week 6 (136 rushing yards, 2 TDs) further complicates matters. HC Todd Bowles hinted at a "three-headed monster" approach, suggesting a fluid distribution of touches based on game script and performance.
This committee structure demands close monitoring, as workload distribution may fluctuate weekly, but ideally, this is a backfield for us to avoid.
8. Upgrade Tyrone Tracy, Downgrade Devin Singletary in Rest-of-Season Fantasy Football Rankings
Tyrone Tracy's impressive performances in Weeks 5 and 6, where he averaged 21 opportunities per game and accumulated over 100 all-purpose yards in each contest, have significantly boosted his value while shortening the rope that Devin Singletary had earlier this season.
Singletary has missed the last two games while nursing a groin injury, which was all Tracy needed to prove his worth in the offense. It was tough timing for Singletary to get hurt since he has been known for his durability throughout his NFL career. Before this groin injury, he had only missed one game from 2020 to 2023.
Still, this is a good thing for fantasy football seeing how his production in September was somewhat underwhelming, with just one top-20 finish and an average of 0.71 YPC before contact. Tracy's unique background as a former WR has contributed to his well-rounded skill set. His ability to run like a receiver while also handling inside zone runs has answered pre-draft questions about his versatility.
Tracy's performance has shown promise from a ROS outlook, as he forced three missed tackles on running plays and two more in the passing game.
9. Rest-of-Season Fantasy Football Outlook For Terry McLaurin
Terry McLaurin's ROS outlook appears very promising. Currently the PPR WR13, McLaurin has been delivering consistent WR1 value, thanks to an 8.4 Utilization Score. His connection with Jayden Daniels has been growing, which has had a positive impact on his production. McLaurin trails only A.J. Brown in air yard share at 51% and trails only Rashid Shaheed in ADOT with 15.9 yards.
Daniels’ accuracy, evidenced by his league-leading 75% completion rate, has everything to do with McLaurin's production. Not to mention, Daniels' dual-threat capabilities open increased opportunities for McLaurin in the passing game. The receiver's route-running skills, particularly his proficiency with the shake route, allow him to create separation and make plays downfield—a recipe for success when mixed with Daniels’ on-target efficiency.
10. The Best Tight End in Fantasy Football?
Brock Bowers is arguably the biggest winner of the Adams trade. Bowers was already leading all TEs in targets (46), TPPR (27%) and air yards (298), and trails only George Kittle in fantasy scoring and utilization this season. Bowers could easily take Kittle’s TE1 ROS ranking, seeing how the Raiders are projected to see the easiest schedule for opposing TEs--facing teams allowing 10.86 FPPG to opposing TEs this season.
Bowers’ ranking is further reinforced seeing how he’s capitalized with both Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell behind center, as well as posting multiple top 5 weeks with or without Adams on the field. Bowers is the real deal and it's unlikely he will fall lower than TE2 ROS.
