In today's Fantasy Life Newsletter, presented by Bud Light:
MOM! WAKE UP! We’ve got a new QB carousel brewing!
It’s not too bad, I mean … It should be OK. I’m not too worried about it really. Don’t worry about it. I’m not worried at all!
(Note: As Fantasy Life’s resident Saints fan, I will be now be referring to the team as “we” throughout the intro. As in: “WE” are totally screwed.)
Potentially Super Bad News In New Orleans
On Thursday, it was announced that Derek Carr is dealing with a Super Bad, super surprising shoulder injury that no one knew anything about. But also, it’s been lingering, and everyone already knew about it …
Seems pretty straightforward to me!
Let’s look at the Saints’ Super Bad options moving forward:
Derek Carr
Carr previously missed the last four games of the season in 2024. With shoulder surgery being a major option on the table, his availability is now in question for 2025.
To say that the Saints are in a lose-lose situation monetarily would be an understatement. If they cut Carr now, it will cost them (~$39 million). If they trade Carr now, it will cost them (~$37.9 million). And if they wait to make a move after June 1, they take on a major cap hit in 2026 (~$59 million).
Cool.
Panic Level: We’re f*cking broke, man.
Spencer Rattler
Spencer Rattler has allegedly been “putting in the work” this offseason and he’s ready to step up to fill Carr’s shoes in 2025.
But with a new HC in tow, Mickey Loomis fighting for his job, and longtime Saints fans already abandoning their season tickets after 2024 … It’s not likely the franchise gives Rattler the time he needs to develop into the face of their organization.
Panic Level: At least he’s trying.
Shedeur Sanders
With the Saints picking 1.09 in the 2025 NFL Draft, the previously deemed ‘hot take’ of Shedeur Sanders going to New Orleans is now … heating up. This would give the Saints a long-term solution at the position if the rookie QB’s flaws can be addressed. But will Sanders fall to 1.09? Either way, the Saints have more than QB needs in this draft.
For what it’s worth, Deion Sanders seems to like the idea of his son in NOLA.
Panic Level: This still won’t help us with the other [insert large number] of needs in our roster.
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers hasn’t signed with the Steelers (yet?). While he’s stated he’s willing to lurk in the deep, dark corners of free agency waiting for a team desperate enough to pay him … this would be an expensive and extremely dramatic Band-Aid in New Orleans—not a true solution.
Panic Level: NO.
Arch Manning
“Prodigal Manning son returns home.” —Saints fans everywhere.
This is a future solution for a future draft. I’m just not ready to kick the QB can even further down the road.
Panic Level: Wait? Will we STILL need a QB in 2026?!?
COULD SANDERS FALL TO THE SAINTS?

Thor’s QB Rankings 2.0: Two New Faces in Top 6
Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders have been the clear top 2 QBs in the 2025 NFL Draft, but there has been movement below them. Thor Nystrom has been moving players up and down the board after pro days, so it was time for him to do an updated version of his quarterback rankings. There are two new faces who have moved into the top 6 passers, and they could heard their names in the first two days of the NFL Draft. Here’s the first set of rankings. For the latest set, we have them here. 👇🏼

The Only Thing That Scares Me More Than The Saints QB Room Are Acronyms
Thankfully, Chris Allen is here to break down what Targets Per Route Run (TPRR) actually means and why it matters for fantasy purposes.
And when you look at the Top 5 players in TPRR in 2024, it’s easy to see why TPRR is worth understanding in your drafts:
- Puka Nacua: 38.3% (TPRR rate)
- Malik Nabers: 30.9%
- Josh Downs: 29.4%
- CeeDee Lamb: 28.9%
- Drake London: 28.9%
