This weekend felt like the calm before the Super Bowl storm.
Outside of some coaching movesāmore on those from Kendall belowāand an increasingly irrelevant Pro Bowl (the NFC won, yaye!), things were eerily quiet on the news front.
The only interesting nugget to emerge from this football-less weekend was the potential return of a playmaker to the Chiefs backfieldā¦
š¤ Will Jerick McKinnon play?!
Jerick McKinnon hasnāt played since Week 15 due to a groin injury, but there is now a chance he might be able to return for the Super Bowl:
Isiah Pacheco has been a true bellcow of lateāsomething Dwain has thoroughly documented in his Utilization Report dispatchesāso this could potentially be an interesting wrinkle.
When we last saw McKinnon, Pacheco was out with a shoulder injury and he delivered two Top 20 RB weeks thanks to strong involvement in the pass game and a couple of TDs:
Heās been a player the team has repeatedly turned to in big playoff moments over the years, so donāt underestimate his involvement if heās active.
šµYou can capitalize on current high interest rates ā hereās how
Interest rates are at 22-year highs, but you can take advantage of them. With rates hovering around 5%, high-yield savings accounts present an opportunity for substantial returns through compound interest.

šļø What could the coaching drama reveal?
Itās not over until itās over, at least thatās what the Las Vegas Raiders learned.
It was reported that Kliff Kingsbury was going to be their new offensive coordinator, but then 48 hours later it was reported that he withdrew his name from the running.
But no, he isnāt to go back to Thailand! Turns out, Kingsbury was hired Sunday night as the Commandersā new offensive coordinator.
If we really want to galaxy brain this (shoutout Peter Overzet), maybe this puts the Commanders in a position to trade up to the first-overall pick to go and get quarterback Caleb Williams from USC.
Kingsbury was one of his coaches at USC last season and Williams is from Washington D.C. ā Iām just saying!
The hire of Kingsbury probably doesnāt move the needle for many Washington fans, especially after hiring Dan Quinn as their new head coach when many believed it would be Ben Johnson.
The Bears ranked last in passing offense in 2022 and finished 27th in 2023. Las Vegas is in a somewhat similar spot as the Commanders, they need a quarterback (but theyāre in a worse position to do so). They are likely going to move on from Jimmy Garoppolo, and Aidan OāConnell doesnāt realistically seem like he could be a long-term answer.
They currently have the 13th overall pick in the draft, which is a tough pick to land a top quarterback. Maybe they look to free agency or even trade for Justin Fields? But when itās laid out in front of us, it is understandable how their OC job would be less appealing than others.
š One key for a 49ers Super Bowl victory
We are less than a week away from Super Bowl 58 and since itās hard to fade Patrick Mahomes and Co., hereās one way the 49ers can find themselves hoisting the Lombardi Trophy on Sunday ā protect Brock Purdyfrom Steve Spagnuolo.
This Chiefs defense finished the 2023 regular season second in the NFL in points allowed per game. During the playoffs, they held the Dolphins, Bills and Ravens to a total of 41 points.
If San Francisco wants to stay in this game they canāt afford to have a slow night on offense, especially because of their defensive struggles to stop the run.
According to The Athletic, the 49ers ranked third during the regular season allowing 89.7 rushing yards per game, but it has been a different theme in the playoffs, where they have given up a total of 318 rushing yards to the Packers and Lions.
I believe Kyle Shanahan will have a solid plan for attacking Spagnuoloās defense. They operate best with a lead, but one thing is for sure: this should be a great show on Sunday.
If the 49ers win, Purdy will join Tom Brady and Joe Burrow as the only quarterbacks who have defeated Mahomes in the postseason.
