A nightmare scenario unfolded in last night’s Bills-Bengals game when Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest midway through the first quarter.
Hamlin collapsed after tackling Bengals WR Tee Higgins and absorbing his right shoulder in his chest. CPR was administered on the field and Hamlin's heartbeat was restored before he was taken via ambulance to the nearby University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
This morning Damar Hamlin's family put out this statement:
After Hamlin left the field, the decision was ultimately made to suspend the game.
In the immediate aftermath of the event, Ryan Clark eloquently spoke about the ugly realities of football on the broadcast, while the Bills huddled and prayed for Hamlin.
The chilling scene last night has stopped the entire football world in its tracks. We’re all in a holding pattern right now as we nervously await positive news on Hamlin’s health.
I highly recommend taking a few minutes today to read this wonderful piece from Tyler Dunne and learn more about Hamlin, who has overcome incredible odds and hardship to make it to the NFL.
Hamlin has made it a priority to give back since entering the league and has a foundation called Chasing M’s that has been raising money for a toy drive with a listed goal of $2,500.
As of the time of this writing, over $4.2 million has been raised for the cause.
There’s a time and place for fantasy football, but today isn’t it.
We hope you join us in learning more about Hamlin, checking out his foundation, and sending many prayers and positive vibes to him and his family.
This afternoon the NFL announced that the game will not be resumed this week.
