Ashton Jeanty's Pro Day with Boise State takes place on Wednesday, March 26, and Matthew Freedman is here to catch you up to speed:

On a recent episode of the Fantasy Life Show, Thor Nystrom said that Ashton Jeanty (Boise State) is his highest-rated RB prospect since Saquon Barkley.

When talking about prospects, people tend to use the word "generational" too liberally, but in Jeanty's case, it's warranted.

Jeanty is the kind of prospect who comes along once every 5-10 years.

He turns 22 years old in December, so he's by no means old. He was productive as a sophomore and then magical as a junior.

  • 2023 (12 games): 220-1,347-14 rushing | 43-569-5 receiving
  • 2024 (14 games): 374-2,601-29 rushing | 23-138-1 receiving

This past year, he was a unanimous first-team All-American and the winner of the Maxwell and Doak Walker Awards as the respective best all-around player and top RB in the nation.

In terms of his production, skill set, and accolades, Jeanty indeed is a Barkley-esque prospect, and Barkley went No. 2 overall to the Giants in the 2018 draft.

Coincidentally, in our most recent Fantasy Life mock draft, Gene Clemons has Jeanty going off the board at No. 2 to the Browns. (By the way, find all our mocks in our Fantasy Life NFL Draft Hub.)

Bold—but maybe not unrealistic considering that Jeanty is truly a generational prospect. I have him at No. 9 in my NFL draft prospect big board, and he's that low only because of the position he plays. In terms of raw ability, Jeanty is probably a top-three player in the class.

But there's one regard in which Jeanty is unlike Barkley.

His athletic profile.

At the combine, Barkley measured in at 6-0, 233 lbs., and then he dominated the 40-yard dash with an outrageous 4.40-second time.

Compare that to Jeanty, who was listed at Boise State at 5-9, 215 lbs. but showed up at the combine at 5-8, 211 lbs. and then didn't participate in anything outside of the medical evaluations and team interviews.

And while Jeanty sat out the combine, the other top RBs in the class—an extremely strong cohort of backfield prospects—flashed in their athletic testing.

Now, it's not uncommon for top prospects to skip events at the combine in favor of their pro days, and that's what Jeanty is doing.

At the combine, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Jeanty "will take part in on-field drills during Boise State's Pro Day."

What that means, though, we will need to see.

Boise State and Ashton Jeanty Pro Day

Ashton Jeanty is scheduled to participate in Boise State’s pro day on Wednesday, March 26th, 2025. Outside of the Ohio State pro day on the same day, all eyes will be on Jeanty and Boise State as the consensus RB1 of the class.

See below for everything you need to know to stay up to date on his pro day, the latest news, testing results, and more.

Ashton Jeanty 40-Time Prediction

Let's be honest: I'm not expecting Jeanty to run the 40-yard dash, because it's probable that athleticism is not his best attribute.

If you read scouting reports on Jeanty, what you'll see is a world of praise for his contact balance, vision, and ability to function within the design of a play.

Thor's Scouting Report: Ashton Jeanty

But he's probably not a sprinter.

Jeanty entered college as a three-star recruit (two from Rivals, three from ESPN, and four from 247Sports). Not to paint with too broad of a brush, but what that generally means is that as a high-school student, Jeanty was a better football player than athlete.

That's why he received scholarship offers from "only" Boise State, Kansas, New Mexico, North Texas, Texas State, Tulane, and Tulsa. The powerhouse programs looked at Jeanty and said, “Nah.”

That was their loss, of course, because Jeanty was good enough at Boise State to get his team to the College Football Playoff and to finish No. 2 in voting for the Heisman Trophy.

But even in college, I think it was probably still the case that Jeanty was better at running the football than sprinting.

To be clear: None of this is intended to take away from what Jeanty accomplished as an undergraduate or what he might be able to do as a professional.

We still view him as the No. 1 RB in this class, and—again—this is a loaded class.

But it's probable that, given how some of Jeanty's peers performed at the combine (specifically Hampton, Judkins, and Henderson) and given that this is a strong RB cohort, Jeanty's athleticism won't be viewed as favorably as it otherwise would have been.

There's a social media clip of him running 40 yards on the football field untouched (with pads and the football) in 4.48 seconds against Utah State.

And in a recent conversation with Thor, he unofficially set the over/under for Jeanty at 4.48 seconds ("what Judkins ran").

And that means I don't think he'll run the 40-yard dash at his pro day. And I also doubt he'll do the vertical and broad jumps, the three-cone drill, and 20- and 60-yard shuttles, and the bench press.

Maybe he'll do a couple of the explosive and agility drills, but probably not. In Thor's words: “I doubt he'll test.”

What Jeanty likely will do—as Pelissero reported—is the on-field drills (i.e., the drills that show off how good Jeanty actually is at football).

And I expect once he has done those drills, we'll get a rush of national reporters declaring via social media, articles, and on-air segments what we already know to be true: Jeanty looks good doing football activities.

Pro Day Results For Ashton Jeanty

This will progressively get moved up throughout the day as results are posted.

Stay tuned on Wednesday, March 26th for the latest Pro Day updates and results from Ashton Jeanty.

Latest NFL Draft Rumors Surrounding Ashton Jeanty

The prop market tends to be a good proxy for the draft rumors that circulate, and if you look at DraftKings you'll see that these are the six teams with the shortest odds to draft Jeanty.

  • Raiders: +120
  • Bears: +130
  • Cowboys: +600
  • 49ers: +1110
  • Saints: +1600
  • Broncos: +1600

In the most recent mocks by Mel KiperDaniel Jeremiah, and Dane Brugler, Jeanty goes No. 6 to the Raiders. It makes sense that they'd be the market favorites to select him.

The Bears and Cowboys are viable candidates to take him if he falls down the board. If Jeanty actually makes it to the Cowboys I'd be somewhat surprised. If he made it past the Cowboys, I'd be floored.

How Ashton Jeanty Pro Day Could Affect Draft Stock

Given that Jeanty's draft stock is so high and he's regularly mocked in the top 10, a strong pro day can't really help him—but a poor pro day (especially if he actually does any athletic testing) could hurt him significantly and cause him to slide down the board 4-6 spots (maybe even more), which actually matters a lot in the top half of Round 1 in terms of long-term compensation.

And that's why we don't expect to see him run the 40-yard dash.

On the field, Jeanty is a master of angles.

For him, the best Pro Day angle is to minimize risk.
